It takes some getting used to the turbo speed and strange camera, plus the tacked-on single player is a total fluke, but Umbrella Corps is a strangely compelling online shooter with a few unique ideas that made it a lot more fun than I was expecting.

I might recommend this game for $15 if you have some friends to play with, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it at its current price point and in its current state. On a community forum I saw a deflated Resident Evil fan quip that Umbrella Corps is about 15 patches away from greatness, and I have to say that's my sentiment exactly. I gave this game several chances, but after turning off my PS4 and walking away from it just now, I'm realizing that I have no motivation to boot Umbrella Corps back up when there are so many alternatives that look, sound, feel, and play better. Wait for a sale and pick this up cheaply if you're a die-hard fan, but keep your friends close and your expectations low.

If you could find a match consistently you’d experience the mediocre gunplay. Unfortunately, you’ll be staring at a matchmaking screen more than playing the game

Umbrella Corps can’t decide if it wants to be Counter Strike or Quake, but there’s still some solid gunplay action to be had with the right teams despite its problems. It’s not the disaster that it could have been, but it also isn’t something that’s worth putting at the top of your game pile.

A boring excuse for a single player mode combined with a series of non-complimentary game mechanics have turned Umbrella Corps into its own version of a confused, shambling husk.

What we have is fast and fun, but limited. If the core elements here don’t keep players entertained, there isn’t much to bring them back later aside from some free DLC levels coming in the near future. There is the sense that this was a quick and dirty project, created for who knows what reason, but here it is, and it’s only recommended for players extremely curious.

If you’re in the market for a good team-based, third-person shooter game, look elsewhere. You can certainly find better shooter games that aren’t plagued with sticky cover mechanics and awkward animations.

As it stands, Umbrella Corps is a hard sell even at $29.99. The content just seems void of enjoyment and entertainment because of the broken feel of the overall gameplay design. I will give Capcom and its developers props for trying something different in the RE series. The idea seems to be built on good intentions.

Umbrella Corps feels like a rushed, unfinished failed attempt at a third person multiplayer shooter. Don't waste your time.

Umbrella Corps is an interesting aberration of a game, coming almost entirely out of left field from a studio not known for games of this genre and bearing equal parts ambition and clumsiness.

Umbrella Corps has no clue what it wants to be, and that translates into a frustrating, confounding experience. Tiny maps, wildly unbalanced gameplay and a general lack of polish and focus makes this one Resident Evil entry that you’re better off avoiding.

Umbrella Corps is unfortunately yet another failed attempt for the Resident Evil franchise to branch out.

It feels more like an indie team’s first prototype than a new entry in a blockbuster franchise, but the truth is there have still been a lot worse Resident Evil games than this.

A boring and broken game that fails even to offer a little bit of fan service.

A confused and confusing shooter which can't capitalise on the famous franchise it leans on.

Umbrella Corps has some good ideas going for it, but the speed of the game really dampens the enjoyment one will have with the game. If the game was slowed down and played like a traditional tactical-based cover shooter, it would have an easier time finding its audience. As it stands, you’re better off picking up Resident Evil 5 on PS4, Xbox One, or PC if you are in need of a zombie fix.

This is one of the few times where a re-master would have sufficed in place of a new title.

There is no reason for you to play Umbrella Corps. There isnt if youre a shooter game fan, because there is a low number of options and contents, and the online infrastructure is unstable. There isnt even if youre a Resident Evil fan: the only association to the series is the map design, that resembles some of the places of the main chapters.

Don’t be confused. Umbrella Corps isn’t a bad game because it’s Resident Evil. Umbrella Corps is a bad game because it’s iterative, boring and ugly. The most interesting thing I experienced was when a bird landed on my head and killed me.
