I have to give credit where credit is due and that lies mainly in the consistently stunning visuals, the beautiful graphics, and the interesting variety of music

A collection of good ideas held back by subpar execution, 'Ray Gigant' feels too easy and dull for its own good. I desperately wanted to love it, but outside of the soundtrack, there's little I can say I ultimately enjoyed here. For those looking to get into the genre, the developer's own 'Demon Gaze' does a tremendous job of welcoming newcomers and working as a terrific dungeon crawler in its own right. 'Ray Gigant', however, just feels hollow.

Ray Gigant follows a lot of the RPG dungeon crawler tropes, while changing up the protagonists and enemies just often enough to keep things from getting boring. It’s not a challenge by any means, taking the focus away from grinding, and instead onto sitting back and enjoying the journey.

All together Ray Gigant was very impressive and it’s extremely easy to get lost in the world they created. I fell in love with all of the characters and their stories. If you are a big anime fan and a lover of RPG’s like me, I definitely recommend this game. You could beat this game in around 20 hours if you speed through it, but if you decide to take your time and see the different endings this game has to offer you will not be upset with what you get.

The monsters all look fantastic, and the artwork by Fuji Mogeo is probably the best I’ve seen in a game outside of Vanillaware. I’ve already ordered copies of Demon Gaze and Stranger of Sword City thanks to Ray Gigant giving me an itch, which I’ve yet to scratch.

he slow start to this game really almost made me give up on it. I am glad I waded through because the battle sequences are fun and challenging. Then the change in team keeps from getting complacent in the moves and abilities available. Some of the character interactions can be a bit odd, mostly in Ichiya’s section related to the female characters around him. But there are other more endearing and interesting interactions that make up for some of the oddities.

Ray Gigant is a flawless game with a great look and awesome animations. I have enjoyed playing the game for this Ray Gigant review, and I also look forward to the studio’s next creation because Ray Gigant definitely shows us once again that Experience Inc. is an expert of the dungeon crawler genre!

Ray Gigant is by no means one of the best RPGs, even in the Vita’s small library. Yet, it’s charming and its style is unique enough to warrant a playthrough.

Ray Gigant is easily my favourite Experience Inc title and quite possibly my favourite dungeon-crawler RPG so far, a huge thank you to Acttil for bringing it to the west. Ray Gigant managed to excel in so many areas from plot, gameplay, visuals and sound which I find is a rare thing these days. If you’re a fan of dungeon-crawling RPG or just looking for a new title to try out on the Vita then Ray Gigant needs to be high on your list.

Despite the lackluster dungeon designs and rather pedestrian difficulty, the gorgeous art style and a greater emphasis on its story and characters makes Ray Gigant stand out amongst its peers.

Ray Gigant doesn’t play like your average dungeon-crawler, and that’s refreshing, but it also doesn’t do enough to warrant more than a hesitant recommendation. Genre nuts will probably eat up the weird variations on combat and character progression, and I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I found myself enamored with the gameplay. Still, this is far too facile and obtuse an experience to give a hearty thumbs-up — especially with its awkward translation and lackluster visuals.

The game is straightforward to get into and adds new aspects at an engaging pace without becoming bogged down in too much repetition.

But this review isn't about what other people might think, it's about what I think. To me, what matters most is if I had fun or not, and I had a lot of fun with Ray Gigant.

This visual novel / dungeon crawler hybrid does a number of interesting things with its characters and gameplay, but falls short of excellence due to a poor conclusion and lack of challenge.

Ray Gigant takes some risks in game design to create a unique JRPG experience.

Ray Gigant sacrifices complexity for accessibility, and while the final experience is a little rote, the style and streamlining make the most compelling case for a non-fan of RPG dungeon crawling to finally get interested.

I take all my hats off to Experience Inc. for what it has done with Ray Gigant. This is a breathlessly creative and fundamentally interesting game, and it, along with Stranger of Sword City, cements the developer as one of my favourites out there at the moment.

Taking a step back from being a hardcore dungeon crawler, Ray Gigant puts one foot firmly into the realm of modern Japanese RPGs, and the result is an accessible experience, perfect for those looking for a gateway into the genre. It's not quite up there with the best that the Vita has to offer, but a good battle system and an enjoyable story go a long way in making this a rock solid role-playing release.
