"Clearly drawing inspiration from classic shooters like id Software’s Quake and DOOM, Hard Reset boasts a mesmerising Bladerunner style aesthetic that fits well with the games story and enemies. Some moments left me in awe, some scratching my head but overall Hard Reset is a game worth checking out, once your done cleaning demon brains from the soles of your boots" .

Hard Reset Redux has the unfortunate issue of trying to recall classic FPS games so close to the Doom release that it cannot completely escape the long shadow of comparison that Doom casts. To its credit however, Hard Reset Redux is a lower priced game and it provides good value as long as you are okay with a game that is fast, furious and fully embraces its crazy action while providing no online multiplayer and somewhat dated audio and visual presentations. FPS fans should enjoy their time with Hard Reset Redux however, so long as they set their expectations accordingly.

If you loved Hard Reset when it first released, give Redux a try, especially if you never played the DLC. It’s probably the best part of the whole game due to the increased challenge and better hidden secrets. Those who have never played before, add Redux to your must-play list and dive in after you’ve had your fill of DOOM. Sadly, the release date might have doomed Redux from achieving its potential with consumers.

In conclusion, Hard Reset: Redux is a missed opportunity to exploit the exciting cyberpunk environment and story that was developed for it. The shooting is unsatisfactory, and the whole game has an old fashioned feel to it that doesn't sit well in comparison to other, more modern games. The presentation of the story, and the story arc itself are highlights, and will drive you to keep playing, but it's possible that once the story is finished there will be no urge to go and play again on a different difficulty setting. This is a game from only five years ago, but it really shows its age. Unless you are a massive cyberpunk fan, this isn't one that we can recommend.

While Hard Reset Redux might not be a wildly innovative experience, it is that same sort of intense, fast moving fun that really defined the early-era FPS titles. The emphasis is on constant action and an extra shot of adrenaline right into the heart if the action starts to lapse for even a second. The difficulty, repetition, and adherence to old genre staples might dissuade certain individuals from the ride, and it certainly isn't one of the best shooters currently available on the market. Still, even with these shortcomings, it is all good fun and remains that way all the way to the end. It is the video game equivalent of the summer action blockbuster. Perhaps it is not the most cerebral or original experience, but occasionally, huge guns, explosions, and enormous hordes of monsters are all that is needed for a good time.

Unsurprisingly for a first-person shooter that wears its old-school stylings like a badge of honour, Hard Reset Redux’s gameplay is rather generic… It’s this simplicity that makes it such fun though

Other than a small pause when the game saves between sections, Hard Reset Redux runs great on PlayStation 4, and the bump in the graphics department to the original release can definitely be noticed. I definitely liked my time with the game for this Hard Reset Redux review, and I can completely recommend it to FPS fans looking for a new game on PlayStation 4 to try.

If I were to describe this Hard Reset Redux in two words, it would be “aggressively mediocre.

There’s no getting away from the somewhat lacking visual fidelity and there will be plentiful moments where you stop to [mistakenly] consider you’re in fact playing a first-person shooter from the circa-2000 era, let alone circa-2011.

Hard Reset was a great game for 2011. In 2016 it is just lost.

Hard Reset Redux remixes the original cyberpunk shooter in smart ways while still retaining what made it unique years ago.

On the whole, Hard Reset Redux is a competent and enjoyable old school shooter on a new school engine. The changes in Redux are significant between the previously released original and Extended Edition, and giving current-gen console players a go at it is a welcomed move. If you played Hard Reset before, there may not be quite enough here to make a return, but if you're otherwise down for a good FPS experience, this is a pretty solid choice.

If you're looking for another retro-inspired FPS to play through now that you've completed DOOM, Hard Reset Redux is a competent option. Although it's dated and doesn't compare to the polish, scope and grandeur that is present in its competitor, it continues to be a decent and challenging game.

There just isn’t enough here to satisfy. Gunplay feels weak, enemies are boring to kill, and the world wears out its welcome quickly. Nothing about this game is overly offensive to the senses, but it just never stands out from the pack either.

Hard Reset Redux is not a bad game, but nor is it something you'll feel particularly satisfied putting an afternoon into. Its dreary setting has been better explored in games like Deus Ex and its combat has been better exploited in Doom. If this year hadn't already been so stellar for amazing releasing, Hard Reset would be more welcome, as it stands, there's a lot better to spend your time on.
