I mean…it’s Worms. If you feel like paying full price for this latest entry because you happen to have a filthy love for watching the little fellas massacre each other then you’re sorted. If you’re wondering if you should stick to any of the other 20-odd Worms games that you already own, then Worms W.M.D isn’t going to change your mind easily.

So to sum it all up, if you’re looking for a zany and fun multiplayer experience on the Switch (or your platform of choice), then Worms W.M.D. is a solid choice. Just don’t expect any revolutionary new features if you’re an old veteran of wormy warfare.

This is classic Worms gameplay with enough new features to make it feel fresh again. Still, the lack of true evolution stops it from feeling like the instant classic that the earliest games in the series were. However, when you're having this much fun blowing up your enemies with tanks and banana bombs who can argue about originality?

The vehicles radically change the gameplay but are in keeping with the outrageous power and unpredictability of Worms combat

There’s no reason any new player to the Worms franchise wouldn’t get a quick kick out of this one, but it’s difficult to recommend the game to series veterans who can get a cleaner experience from the entries they currently own.

A worthy continuation of the Worms franchise, a nice return to form after deviating to 3D for a few years. Worms W.M.D gets everything right from a mechanical standpoint, but we can't help but feel a few of the design choices were unnecessary. The big new additions are hit and miss, but in the middle of all the fluff there's a solid, very playable game - especially if you're into couch co-op/multiplayer.

Worms W.M.D. is a good example of a game that can use its original, winning design format, spice things up with a whole bunch of new features, and still come out as an impressive title. The introduction of crafting weapons between rounds adds to the complexity of the strategy in a good way – the game can't be picked up as instantly as games such as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, but with time and dedication, you'll find a seriously rewarding tactical battle game. Some niggling factors such as the awkwardness of moving your character around, the fact that your movement and weapon's aim are frustratingly locked to the same control stick, and the unfortunate lack of ability to play online with friends prevent the game from being the amazing experience it could have been, though. If you love the Worms franchise or games of the genre you'll likely have a lot of fun by grabbing a copy of this game, just bear these little things in mind as you make your decision.

Team 17 have done a good job of breathing a bit of new life into the franchise with Worms WMD and while it isn’t perfect, it’s a good way to reignite some old friendly rivalries with a pal or two.

Worms W.M.D brings back the classic 2D joy of Worms Armageddon, yet mixes it with new and interesting ideas that keep you on your worm tail. Though some may wince at the price, it's hard not to love the chaotic multiplayer and extensive customisation, and the addition of crafting adds a new lease of life to an already timeless formula. Forget the series going stale – this is one of the freshest cans of Worms to date.

The same old Worms gameplay you’ve seen many times before, with bolder animations, new weapons and added vehicles.

In contrast to recent games, Worms WMD feels more like the classic Worms titles with its explosive mayhem and tongue-in-cheek humour. Vehicles, turrets, and crafting all freshen up the formula somewhat, while the new 2D art direction mixed with the classic simplistic structure of Worms campaigns make for a welcome and familiar experience. Still, there’s not much out there quite like Worms and Worms WMD is a great rendition of that explosive madness.

Minor gripes aside, Worms W.M.D is a great addition to the long-running series! Combining new features like vehicles and crafting with the original 2D design is a great way to update the series while still keeping the old-school flavor. As a result, Worms WMD is sure to satisfy fans of the series and hopefully lure in a new generation of players.

There really isn't a whole lot more to say about Worms W.M.D. If you've skipped over the last few Worms games but pine for the nostalgic feeling of ripping apart cute little critters across a gigantic map with precision bank shots, you'll be able to relive those memories here. Especially so if you love Armageddon, which this one is trying hard to emulate.

Worms WMD pays homage to its roots and the addition of crafting, buildings and vehicles add a few interesting twists to this classic. Worms is all about multiplayer and the lack of online play with friends is a real shame though getting pals together for a local match is as fun as its ever been and the best worms in a very long time.

Worms W.M.D. is great re-entry point for people like me who have sort of fallen off the wagon with the series over time. It keeps what I remember, and refines what I had issues with. The hilarity is still there, the solid game play shines above the rest, and it feels good to be back.

Worms W.M.D. still as fun as it was in other systems, but adds this "mobile" style thanks to the portable options of Nintendo Switch. A great option to play with our friends, with interesting new features.
