You can say many things about Death Road To Canada but one of those things has to be that it’s a good game. Sure, I feel like I’ve played this game before but I also feel like this is the best take on the roguelike-like zombie survival genre.
The Death Road to Canada is filled with sorrow and loss, with only the toughest of survivors going all the way.
Death Road to Canada is an addictive and fresh take on the undeniably stale zombie genre. The game's sharp writing and ridiculous events filled with personality inspire multiple runs just out of want to experiment with the different outcomes. Though the game fails to utilize a couple key features of the Switch that would've truly enhanced the player experience, it's still great fun to be had here.
For people who thoroughly enjoy all of the key elements Death Road to Canada offers I have no doubt there’s fun to be had. Even if I wouldn’t necessarily call the game “deep” there’s quite a bit of content, different ways to play with variables to keep the experience fresh, and almost always a surprise or two in any given run. For anyone who isn’t a big fan of the survival and roguelike elements, though, they significantly influence the experience so it’s hard to say it can break out of being a more niche title. However, if you enjoy zombies, pop culture jokes, some exploration, and action you may be able to survive and have a great time on the Death Road to Canada.
Death Road to Canada brings the good and the bad to the Nintendo Switch. Once again we see a 2D title that has great music with fun and engaging gameplay. On the other hand we get screwed by RNG on a near-perfect run and lose the want to play another round. Depends on how you look at it.
Death Road to Canada is a very, very fun game. You can experience it either in single player or in co-op with various different game modes and a deep character creation mechanic. No two playthroughs will be the same and each time you die you will want to spend your Zombo Points and jump straight back in for more. I honestly can't think of any reason why you shouldn't pick this game up.
You’re going to want to take some time to learn the mechanics of Death Road to Canada. It’s surprising and tough, charming and intricate, full of depth and stupidly fun. No, it won’t be for everyone, if you want a game where you just straight up bash some zombies into kingdom come then go play Dead Rising, this is far more nuanced and focused on achieving an RPG-esque roguelike adventure that I was ever expecting.
Death Road to Canada manages to breathe life into the zombie genre and create a fun, engaging experience that’s perfect for the pick-up-and-play nature of the Nintendo Switch. It looks simple, but its pixelated veneer hides a surprisingly complex survival game that’ll grab you like a horde of zombies
Death Road to Canada is zombie apocalypse take on Oregon Trail. You have limited resources, limited manpower, and limited firepower. Everything is quite scarce and only zombies can thrive in such a world. It's fun, but not impressive. And as Oregon Trail, can be frustrating.

I really wanted to like Death Road To Canada more than I did. It features decent combat, rewarding exploration, and a funny story. The roguelike elements frustrated me and the two-player co-op fell flat. If you don’t mind random events ending your game, then this one’s for you!
I have to say, I enjoyed Death Road To Canada much more than I ever thought I would, which is bad on my part. It isn’t meant to be played as some epic journey that you play for hours at a time and that’s not a bad thing. Every run in the game is different, meaning that it doesn’t get as tedious or tiresome as other games that require you to start over from scratch when you die.
Death Road To Canada is a nice modern throwback to The Oregon Trail with a morbid twist. It can get challenging and the action/exploring gameplay is fun and intense. It's a great co-op game for sure, if you're prepared for unfair RNG and repeating it until you've actually won. Still, the replay value is there and there's plenty of fun moments and unlockables.
Death Road to Canada offers a dark premise with clever dialogue and an attitude that never takes itself too seriously. You will have hours of entertainment hacking and slashing the undead and making decisions that haven’t given you this much anxiety since Oregon Trail. However, even with randomized journeys, it may not be enough to bring you back in the long term, especially considering how hard it is to succeed, gain Zombo points, and unlock better character traits. It needs more braiiiins for that.

The wacky narrative escapades in Death Road to Canada are where it excels, but it falls apart when you actually want to progress. The brutal, random nature too often made me feel like I had little agency in my quest, which made it hard to really care about ever making it to Canada reliably. The reward for my death road was the unusual tales I created along the way, not the gameplay.

The game is far from easy, death is around every corner, and the challenge will continue to increase as more days pass in-game, so if you're not into this type of game then Death Road to Canada might not be for you. But if you give the game a chance you will find a solid pixeltastic zombie outbreak survival roguelike with a lot of content to enjoy. Will you survive or will your trip be cut short by the zombie horde?
