It’s a shame that online co-op wasn’t included, but if players ever needed an excuse to get their friends to actually come over and play something, this wouldn’t be a bad weekend recommendation. What we have is a game that takes inspiration from a classic genre years, before and while doing nothing very original with the idea, still provides a good time.

Despite a gorgeous art style and good attempt at RPG progression, both the gameplay and interface are just too clunky to make Dungeon Punks stand out from the crowd.

What few good points Dungeon Punks has are ultimately overshadowed by some atrocious design choices. Golden Axe was a bit before my time, but if this is what that game was like, then it does not seem like something we need to resurrect.

I really liked Dungeon Punks. It is a gorgeous 2D game with hand-drawn cel-shaded graphics with a good level of polish, and a lot of fun to be had. I played the game for hours for my Dungeon Punks review, and I will be going back until I get that Platinum!

The developer has released a patch that updated the game to fix two particular trophies, and this should, in theory, make it possible to unlock the rest. Unfortunately, and as expected, this effect is not retroactive, so if the trophies were buggy for you, you’ll need to start a new run. But if you’re new to the game and this Dungeon Punks review has shown you this is a game you definitely want to play, then the patch is just what you needed.

The best word I can use is probably ‘clunky’, but putting it rather bluntly, Dungeon Punks controls as well as a dead horse

Dungeon Punks can be tolerable in short bursts, but an extended play session could temporarily damage your will to live.

Dungeon Punks is a fun Brawler that offers plenty of gameplay and a hilarious storyline that only goes from bad to worse for Captain Firelle and her crew of hired misfits. If you’ve been needing to beat up on lots of bad guys or show a friend who’s boss? Dungeon Punks has you covered!

I won’t go as far to say Dungeon Punks will likely be the best brawler released this generation, but it’s certainly up there. It’s blend of great mechanics, enemies, and a funny story show that the developers knew how to make a brawler great. There is some tedium here and there, but it was nothing that stalled me from playing, because everything else was so strong.

Dungeon Punks is a game that captures the dream of the developers, but that dream may involve finding friends to play with. Raid through some colorful yet repetitive landscapes to collect gear and level up. The characters are colorful and switching between them to use various spells to stack combos can be fun, but many of the missions can be tough. The game is cynical and has an attitude that is easy to fall in love with, and may be addicting for those who enjoy a good grind.

Dungeon Punks is certainly a 2D beat ‘em up. But that comes with all the pitfalls associated with that type of game and you will quickly realise this is nothing more than a shallow grind. And being such a grind means it’s very difficult for you to die simply because of how the mechanics work and that you can only get so far before the enemies become noticeably trickier. The real challenge comes from figuring out what the controls are, and then making sure you input the right button combo just to unleash a Level 1 spell. With friends it can be enjoyable, but on your own you will struggle to see this through to the conclusion.
