Resogun might seem innocuous at first, but once players peel back the layers, they will see that Resogun is a challenging, yet rewarding, space shooter with a fantastic sense of style. Granted, some players might not find the challenge worth it, or simply find that this very niche genre is not for them, but those who live for these types of unforgiving shooters will count Resogun among the top tier.

Resogun is a marvellous, frantic shoot em up, and the surprise star of the PlayStation 4 launch lineup.

Aside from the simplistic online co-op and lack of local multiplayer, it's hard to pick a fault in this explosive PS4 exclusive. Much like Super Stardust HD before it, Resogun offers an almost perfect fusion of challenging and rewarding action. While the core arcade mode does lean a little on the short side, this is a title that you'll struggle to put down while you battle your way to the top of the online leaderboards. Plus, did we mention that it looks amazing?

With solid visuals, twitch gameplay, and a strange and mesmerizing addictiveness to it, you really can't go wrong by spending time with this game, especially during those times when you need a break from COD, BF4, Killzone, or whatever other mainstream title you may play on your brand new PS4.

Resogun's pretty graphics and sometimes excessive effects make it look like a tech demo, but its refined action and subtle intricacies quickly put such notions to death. This is a thrilling and challenging shooter that just so happens to demo the tech quite well!

"Resogun" is the perfect first title to give away to PS Plus members on the PS4. It shows that a game doesn't need to be a triple-A release to shine on new hardware.

There's not all that much more to it, but the action-packed shooting can get extremely hectic and challenging—teetering on the fine line of being overwhelming, but never to the game's detriment. It's also fast-paced, fun, and incredibly addicting. Something about it really puts you "in the zone" where it's difficult to take your eyes off the frenzy of shooting and explosions. The soundtrack of heart-pumping house music helps tie it all together, making for an exhilarating experience through and through.

Another expertly produced retro-inspired shooter from Housemarque, Resogun gives players an immensely impressive level of depth, challenge, replayability, and graphical prowess that stands as one of the best ways to be introduced to the recently launched PlayStation 4.

Housemarque has once again delivered on all fronts, creating a compulsive and refined game that showcases the meaty power of the PS4 – and that really isn't bad for a launch title.

Resogun is an incredibly fun game, but not much more than that. This is by no means a system seller and isn't a game that screams "next gen" in any area.

Resogun, as it stands, is almost as close to perfection as you can get for a title in the shoot-em-up genre, if you're a fan then you can do no wrong. The campaign might be slightly limited and not varied enough for some, but these are niggles that do little to detract from the core experience.

Video games aren't solely about seeing pores on someone's face or shoving as many zombies on screen as possible. They are about gameplay, about the thrills of sneaking through enemy fire or detonating a bomb at the last second to save yourself. Resogun is a blissful reminder that no matter what system you play them on, sometimes the simple games are the best.

'Resogun' was first out of the gate for the launch of the PlayStation 4, and there's a reason why Sony chose this downloadable title to be one of the first added to the PlayStation Plus Game Collection. Its impressive visuals, slickly smooth gameplay, and addictive score chase are a perfect match for the start of this new console generation. Although the number of levels currently available are small, and the variety of ships to play with are few, there's no denying 'Resogun' deserves a place among the PlayStation 4 family. Whether as a free game to start your next-gen addiction, or paid for in full, 'Resogun' should find a way into your gaming library sooner rather than later.

Resogun also falls a little short when it comes to a lack of variety. It's nice to have three ships but there are only five stages, and this – coupled with the basic nature of the gameplay – makes things feel somewhat repetitive. Besides that, this is an old-school shooter with a massive, awesome upgrade, one that's slick, polished, and ceaselessly entertaining.
