The Final Stations has a poor and simple gameplay and lacks replayability. Playing the game again would mean struggling with controls and at times simply broken game. It has a few interesting factors like passengers themselves or a quest to keep them alive. The Final Station drowns, however, in the see of low budget 2D console titles.

As a vehicle for story, The Final Station is a tremendous effort which keeps you wondering as you piece together the snippets of story and while the combat and exploration suffices, it doesn’t live up to the narrative the developers deliver.

The Final Station was a surprise of a game that absolutely snuck up on me and that’s primarily thanks to the story. The action is engaging and can be a challenge but with every new note you find or comment you hear a survivor make the desire to understand this world, what has happened in the past, and what is happening now grows. With a runtime that is just about in the sweet spot for this experience at a handful of hours (though quite a few more if you play the add-on story) The Final Station is a pretty satisfying bite of indie goodness on Switch.

In The Final Station, you're never quite entirely sure what is going on, but it also doesn't matter because you'll enjoy the ride.

Overall I think The Final Station is an excellent game, as far as survival games go it’s one of the more playable in my opinion. It keeps its gameplay fairly simple but the predictable gameplay loop really had me hooked, always switching between riding the train and going out exploring. The story and atmosphere provided really did add a lot to it though and if these had been lesser then maybe I wouldn’t hold it in the same high regard. It’s an interesting concept and I hope we can see more like this from the developers in the future.

The Final Station tries to do many things, but fails to deliver on any of them. It has some interesting ideas, but explores no deeper than the surface. It's a perfectly serviceable game, but you're better off looking elsewhere for a fresh and exciting experience.

When your time with The Final Station comes to an end, you might feel like those pistons – firing over and over until you reach your terminus, bound by looping gameplay as they are to the track. Though it might thirst for challenge, it’s a surreal tour through a beautiful, brutal world – one underscored by loving attention to detail and an atmosphere unlike any other I’ve played. Despite the mechanical motions that get you there, the journey and the destination stay with you long after you disembark.

The Final Station has a lot more going right than wrong, and it is definitely a must own if you're into horror games.

The story may be somewhat weak, but don’t let that deter you from picking this one up. Even though the game is short (my playthrough was about 4 hours), this is definitely something worth looking at.

Its linearity and lack of challenge do the ideas at the core of The Final Station something of a disservice. It's not a bad way to spend a few hours, but ultimately this apocalyptic train ride comes off the rails pretty swiftly.

A nice little package that combines light management elements with survival-horror gameplay.

I would recommend this game to everyone, especially fans of the genre (any of them on display). There’s enough here to warrant at least one run through, and you could definitely make the argument of 100% completion to go through it again to keep everyone alive and mop up anything else you may have missed. Yeah, the game has flaws, but these are the kind I’m willing to overlook for the story, and developer Do My Best Games probably did do their best, and I appreciate it.

The story was built up in a steady pace but it lost its charm by the time it reached the end with all the questions it left unanswered. It’s something a future patch may fix by providing an alternate ending or possibly a sequel or the same game but through a different perspective. It’s just a short and relatively cheap game on the market and we recommend it if you have the time or if you are interested enough to crack the story yourself.

The Final Station has many things going on at the same time, and not all of them are successful. The overall experience is a fun one though and I can easily recommend getting this game, just make sure to be spare with bullets and medkits!

As video games mature as a medium of expression, it is understandable that stories outside of the conventional heroic yarn will become more common. The Final Station, alongside games like The Last of Us and, more humorously, the Grand Theft Auto franchise display the shadows of human nature so that heroism can be acknowledged and appreciated properly.

The Final Station is a great addition to the survival horror genre. Do My Best Games‘ debut title mixes competent gameplay with excellent storytelling and world building in order to create a compelling adventure that never overstays its welcome.

The Final Station may be an exhilarating and atmospheric ride, but it's repetitive structure and shallow gameplay screeches it to a halt.

I wish I had more nice things to say about The Final Station. It’s not a particularly great horror game, its story is initially interesting but ultimately disappointing, the exploration is nearly 100% linear, the combat is bare bones, and the train sequences are painful.
