A classic survival-action-horror that redefined the franchise and scared the hell out of us!

Resident Evil 4 still feels good, and being able to have 60fps and 1080p on the PS4 makes it a beautiful display, even with the GameCube-era graphics. Still, I would liked more improves done to the title – the 30fps animations for reloading still remains – since it’s been 11 years from the original release. If you haven’t played Resident Evil 4, then go for it, because this is one adventure that you will most likely love.

Even in 2016, Resident Evil 4 remains one of the best action games available.

Resident Evil 4 remains in a league of its own, but this port dampens the enjoyment with an unwelcome jump in resolution and some odd control issues.

Resident Evil 4 holds its crown as the best game in the series. A great voice cast can't always cover up some awkward story moments, but the atmosphere and experience alone should have almost everyone playing this game sometime in his or her life.

The overwhelming majority of people who played the game over the years and across all available platforms have made their praise of the game well known. Therefore, I feel comfortable giving this game a high review score. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got ballistics to secure.

Resident Evil 4 on the Switch is the same cult game that redefined horror games, almost to a fault. While still enjoyable, it does show its age with no improvements on its stale control scheme.

It’s not often that a game can be re-ported and re-mastered nine different times, but Resident Evil 4 isn’t just any game. In a time of constant remasters and re-releases flooding our current gaming market, Resident Evil 4 stands above the rest as a worthy re-release. If you’re a fan of Resident Evil, I highly recommend revisiting arguably the best game the series has ever offered. If you’ve never played a Resident Evil game before, this is a perfect time and place to jump in.

‎Resident Evil 4 is still a marvel.‎‎ Its history, villains, characters and everything that surrounds it have made the title one of the great must-sees of the genre. Despite not having aged too well, it continues to be a benchmark of the genre and a game that marked a before and after when launched on the market. Now it remains only to hope that Resident Evil 4 Remake is a reality and that, who knows, it picks up the baton of its predecessor taking the GOTY.‎

It may not be the definitive version of Resident Evil 4, but it is still a fun one nonetheless.

Overall, RE4 on Xbox One/PS4 is the best way to play this game on console. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it has never looked better.

A near perfect experience with amazing characters, gameplay and environments dripping with atmosphere, Resident Evil 4 is an absolute blast throughout and this Remaster is only hampered by the awkward controls and the cutscenes for certain parts of the game. Resident Evil 4 reminds us why it is the king of the series and why it deserves the top spot.

The action is expertly metered against moments of exploration and light puzzling, creating the right balance of highs and lows that promotes extended bouts of gameplay

Resident Evil 4 managed to make me tense, excited and surprised. Its great and unique gameplay goes from exploration and shooting to solving puzzles, so it’s hard to feel bored when progressing through the game as the content is varied consistently. It lacks more of the visual improvements you’d hope to find in a remaster, but it’s still a game worth going back to.

Resident Evil 4 is fun. It's excellently paced and contains fairly frightening cut-scenes. The characters are paper-thin and their actors ham it up, but it's more about the overall plot, anyway. The soundtrack increases the feeling of dread. It's just a shame so many environments have the same colours and atmosphere. Some enemies become underpowered and aren't as visually scary as they could be. Perhaps worst of all, the encounters become more and more scripted, and the locales more on-rails. As long as enemies' vitals are hit, ammo will pile up, making survival too easy. That said, it's as tense as Resident Evil 5, scarier, well-rounded, and doesn't rely on bullet sponge bosses. It's survival-action with decent horror, and worth a buy to see the series' wasted potential.

Resident Evil 4's latest re-release on the PS4 and Xbox One is the definitive way to play the game on consoles. If you have already played Resident Evil 4, you will still enjoy the updated resolution and frame rate. If you have never played the game, this is the best way to experience this game of the decade.

As the game's iconic merchant might say, buy at your own discretion, especially when there are "a lot of good things on sale" elsewhere on the Nintendo eShop.

If that seems like a minor thing to make my biggest complaint, you'd be right; the faults in Resident Evil 4 don't add up to very much. It's astonishing just how well RE4 has held up after nearly fifteen years, but it still managed to draw me in and keep me playing no matter what intermittent problems I ran into. There's a reason this game has been so celebrated over the years, and if you're like me and have been ignoring it for over a decade, then there's no better time to see what the big deal is than right now.
