"Thumper offers enough to get people thinking about the future of rhythm games that don't include Guitar Hero or Rock Band. The visuals and soundtrack offer something that developers seem to shy away from nowadays and the gameplay, while not without its problems, is fast-paced and exciting. Gamers will probably be disappointed with the fun factor shift halfway through the experience but what's here is definitely a promising start for the genre within the PSVR ecosystem."

Simply put, your enjoyment of Thumper will mostly rely on how much fun you have retrying the same segments over and over again. Although some folks like games that take this approach, I personally get tired of it fast so keep that in mind before taking the trip.

Thumper is a thriving rhythm game that includes an incredible VR mode. That's not to say the game isn't worth it if you have no interest in virtual reality, but indie developer Drool takes the game to new heights when you find yourself enveloped in the game's 3D space. Even being mediocre when it goes to playing on the leaderboards, I keep going back to Thumper every night for just one more run.

Thumper is an incredible assault on the senses when played in virtual reality. The speed at which you have to turn corners and hit notes in a stunningly designed world makes for an intense and enjoyable ride. Any PlayStation VR owner should pick it up, even if it’ll make you want to go to bed after one level.

Ultimately, what you're left with is the definitive version of the game, even with the changes being relatively slight. It was one of the best games on PSVR back in the day, and the same can be said for its port on PSVR2.

Thumper is a great rhythm action game, with strong visuals, fantastic design, and more speed than Keanu Reeves on a bus rigged to explode.

Thumper’s brutal, breakneck speed and precision-based musical action kept me entranced for all nine of its bizarre, nightmarish stages, which contained enough nuanced high score-chasing tricks to demand several replays already. To really master Thumper’s many layers of rhythm-based mechanisms would take much more time than the 10 or so hours it takes to complete the first time – and that’s a challenge that I eagerly accept.
