I try to give each game a fair shake regardless of whether it’s new or a port, reboots, etc. So, all by itself, Destroy All Humans for the Nintendo Switch is a romp. It isn’t quite as long as I hoped, but playing a jet pack wearing, Elvis impersonator looking, little green (gray, actually) man from outer space with a Zap-O-Matic and a flying saucer capable of blowing up tanks is a barrel of fun.

Destroy All Humans on the Nintendo Switch isn’t the best remake of an older game that we’ve seen but it’s still a solid one. As someone who spent a lot of time with Crypto-137 back in the day I was happy to jump back into his boots and terrorize humanity once again. Some parts of the game like the mission design and the audio do show their age but improvements to controls and graphics make for a better experience over the original version. The Switch version doesn’t do this remake justice though and if terrorizing humanity on the go isn’t that important to you then I’d recommend playing it on any other platform.

Destroy All Humans! finds itself in a peculiar position on the spectrum of video game releases. A remake of a game from nearly three generations ago, it delivers exactly what it promises: an improved but faithful version of the original. The problem arises when you realize that this re-release is sometimes much more faithful than it should be.

This is one of those titles from the XBox generation that I've always heard talked about with some reverence but had never previously had a chance to partake in...

Destroy All Humans! is beat for beat a remake of the original title with the exception of one new mission that manages to blend right in with the rest of the game. The biggest concern with this port is that it crashed a number of times and there never seemed to be a consistent reason for why - hopefully this is something that will be addressed in early updates. While it's awesome to see Switch players get access to this cult classic and all its new content, it would be better to purchase the port on another console if possible, as doing so will likely provide a more consistent and enjoyable experience.

GOOD - Crypto-137 is back and he’s just as pissed off at humanity as ever. The game is a blast to play, but this might be the worst looking version of the game available, especially when docked on the TV. It does look good in handheld though!

Destroy All Humans! is a semi-open world game set in a fictional 1959 where Cryptosporidium 137 (or Crypto for short) is sent to Earth by his leader, Orthopox 13. His task is to find out what happened to his predecessor Cryptosporidium 136, who disappeared in 1947 after he was sent to Earth for a similar mission. Orthopox 13 (a.k.a Pox) asks our grey little protagonist to harvest human brain stems to prevent his Furon species from going extinct. Why do you ask? Well, a long long time ago, after an encounter between humans and Furon warriors, the human DNA now contains particles of the Furon DNA. Unfortunately, a shadowy government organization called Majestic, and led by Silhouette stands in the way of Crypto’s mission.

Destroy All Humans returns in a remake that refreshes the original's visuals, modernises its controls and adds a few new weapon and traversal upgrades to proceedings, all whilst failing to make any meaningful changes to the game's rather outdated core gameplay. What's here is still silly fun, for sure - decimating dullard humans with Crypto's high tech alien gadgets and unstoppable flying saucer can still provide some chaotic catharsis - but there's no denying this one's showing its age mechanically and newcomers to the series may well be left feeling a little underwhelmed.

Is the Destroy All Humans! Remake on Switch Any Good? - REVIEW (Switch) video thumbnail

The biggest selling point for Destroy All Humans! on the Nintendo Switch is the ability to play the game on the go, and it is perfectly playable that way. In fact, I actually enjoyed playing it handheld more than I did docked. There wasn’t a very noticeable difference between the two outside of screen resolution. If you have not purchased the game on another system or the idea of playing it on the go is the most important thing to you, then I would say the game is worth checking out. With that said, I would not recommend anyone just looking to play the game purchase it on the Switch if they have the ability to play on another platform. Switch ports are always going to suffer from being a slight step down from their other console counterparts, and Destroy All Humans! is no different.

Destroy All Humans! is a modern looking remake of a game that is clearly from another time. The open level structure allows players to create chaos and play around. The story isn’t anything to write home about and is still stuck in 2005 but all things considered this is a decent remake of a game that didn’t set the world on fire over 15 years ago. Is it a must-play title? No, not in the slightest. Would you have a fun time playing this? Yes, for sure

These small imperfections, however, will not spoil the overall picture of the game, which reminds us of “Mars Attacks!” with entertaining gameplay and lots of “B-Movie” moments.

Destroy All Humans! is an example of a remake done right. It keeps all the charm from the original while updating the aspects that didn't age well.

We recommend the game for 7 points and we hope that we will see a remake of the second game, which was threefold in its content, you fought against ninjas and Kojira, and mainly supported the splitscreen game.

Though it misses the mark on some important points, Destroy All Humans! (2020) is an incredibly faithful remake that is well worth picking up.

Destroy All Humans! is a good remake of a game that has become a cult classic over time. It has refined graphics in a new engine, but at the same time an excessive number of loadings. Regarding the base material, it has a good mood in certain parts, but the really fun parts (like destroying everything) are overshadowed by the bad stealth missions.

Destroy All Humans! it's hard to criticize. It's not a bad game, it's just a product of its time. So you can only recommend it to those who liked it in 2005. These players will appreciate an upgraded visuals and laugh at silly, but still funny jokes. For others, it's a game with a repetitive gameplay and unremarkable visuals.

Whilst I did have immense fun with Destroy all Humans the game feels dated in its controls and content and I feel that the asking price is on the high side due to a variety of factors of which the main one is that Microsoft themselves gave the original game away for Free as part of the Games for Gold program a month or so before the release. I believe this was done to drum up anticipation for the game but I cant help feel that it backfired as there isn't enough additional content or changes to warrant the price.

Destroy All Humans! is another wonderful remaster from THQ Noridc. The overhauled graphics make the game pop, while the action and general premise are just as entertaining now as they were back in 2005.

While Destroy All Humans! is a great nostalgia trip for me and I really enjoyed replaying the game, in the end it does feel like I'm replaying that PS2 title just with some enhanced graphics. While it doesn't really feel 15 years old, there are certainly moments where you question whether an improved touch would've been better for some aspects. It isn't bad, but it isn't the best it can be.
