There might be some faults throughout but they don't stop Frozen Synapse 2 from being a solid sequel that is worth your time.

Frozen Synapse 2 is a good game, but is doomed to be overshadowed by other more popular games. It's too expensive at full price, put it on your wishlist and wait for it to go on sale.

Frozen Synapse 2's tactical core remains solid and fascinating, but the lack of a sufficiently detailed tutorial makes learning the new depths of the game a frustrating experience.

Frozen Synapse 2 keeps the core gameplay fairly consistent and adds a new campaign mode which is a bit flawed but interesting nonetheless. The sequel also manages to refine the terrific tactical gameplay of the original Frozen Synapse to create a tighter squad combat game.

Though Frozen Synapse 2 struggles to effectively convey its new ideas, especially in the ambitious but ultimately disappointing offline campaign, the multiplayer remains a unique and engaging challenge for aspiring tacticians.

A tale of two games, Frozen Synapse 2 is best when you're battling it out like you did in the original. Thankfully, that's a large portion of what you're doing in this game.

Frozen Synapse 2 effectively builds onto the first game with new weapons and a deeper sense of action and anticipation. The single player is unfortunately tepid compared the multiplayer, but the game is nevertheless an essential strategy addition.

The second chapter of Frozen Synapse is deeper and more complex, but too many technical problems keep it away from real greatness.

Frozen Synapse can be clunky, frustrating and terrifying in equal measure. The tactical level is tightly balanced and, when played competitively provides a real spectacle, even when it's your soldiers that are getting wrecked.

Frozen Synapse 2 has plenty to offer with its campaign, but again, this sequel is at its best when playing against other fallible humans.

Frozen Synapse 2's combat will keep pulling you back in, and the open world is a fun sandbox that looks and sounds fantastic. The turtling A.I. is still a pain, though.

The original Frozen Synapse taught us that depth is only measured by the tool that you're using to measure it with. Frozen Synapse 2 shows that depth is only one part, and how that depth can be spread across a surface the size of the city to be bigger and better. Mode 7 calls Frozen Synapse 2 "open world tactics", I call it a freedom gambit – because everything you do is a risk, but has the potential of a reward powered by the freedom of your choices. Frozen Synapse 2 is everything you'd want in a sequel, and more.

Frozen Synapse 2 dual-wields nail-biting gameplay and engaging narratives. Despite its minor issues, it is one of the most engaging gaming experiences you can have.

Frozen Synapse 2 is a welcome return to the intensely micromanaged turn-based tactical battles that made the original so compelling. The asynchronous multiplayer is unquestionably the star of the show, and queuing up multiple online games at once means you're never stuck waiting for an opponent, and that you can play at your own pace. But while the new City Game story mode is conceptually interesting, in practice the largely scripted sequence of story missions doesn't allow for much in the way of meaningful gameplay depth.

Any armchair strategists out there will find plenty of enjoyment with Frozen Synapse 2. If you played the original, you will find plenty of new units, improved AI, and a whole new heap of fun. While the single-player campaign is a little lackluster, the core of the game in both single and multiplayer is the tactical combat, and Mode 7 has hit a home run with this piece of the game.
