I love the characters of Tales of Berseria - they're fresh and funny although they hardly develop. What I like less: The world that is dull and lifeless, the story that doesn't leave any room for side quests, and the overall technical representation of the game. It just seems to be older than it is. Even the main story loses its goal and seems to be stretched far too much. I love to continue the journey with the characters and to laugh with them - but there's not much more to Tales of Berseria that really convinces me.

A very long, and drawn out game of good quality. Tales of Berseria lives up to the Tales series in a fine form. It fixes the flaws of the Tales of Zesteria and adds a great game to the lineage.
Tales of Berseria is far from perfect, but the game is interesting and energetic enough that its flaws are easy to overlook. Velvet’s quest for vengeance with the help of her colorful companions is entertaining, even if it tends to drag on a little. But at the end of the day, it’s pretty damn fun, and isn’t that what really matters?
Nevertheless, the story and combat mechanics makes up for anything faulty, so I can't recommend it enough to those who love JRPG games. Finally, a game where playing the villain feels kind of … right.
What's great about Berseria is that unlike most Tales of games, it acts as a wonderful jumping-in point for new players. Combine this with its ease-of-use and flashy combat designed to accommodate more tactical, veteran players and you have one of the most complete JRPGs you're likely to find on the current generation's systems. Tales of Berseria is a must play for any and all JRPG fans.
While Final Fantasy continues to make sweeping changes to its JRPG formula, Tales of Berseria keeps refining the classic template it’s known for, resulting in an enjoyable adventure for series fans. The lack of any revolutionary innovation might disappoint those looking for something different. Fans of classic JRPGs, however, will like the polished familiarity of this title.

It’s a stellar example of how time shapes a video game experience, as much as real-world experiences shape our time with a game. These are Tales Of revenge. Tales Of hope. Tales Of camaraderie, of friendship, and of Katz. It’s also a Tale Of the quintessential rainy day JRPG: the kind you curl up with on the couch and lose yourself to when the day or, as of this moment in our own tale, the world, is just too goddamn gloomy.
Tales of Berseria is most definitely one of my favourite ‘Tales of’ titles to date and I highly recommend it for both newcomers as well as veterans of the series.
Tales of Berseria feels like a much needed leap forward for the franchise. It still suffers a bit graphically since the game was released on the PlayStation 3 over in Japan, so hopefully the next entry is fully developed for the PlayStation 4 and PC so we can get an advancement in terms of the visuals as well. Fans of the series are absolutely going to adore this game, as well fans of roleplaying games in general. Hopefully we’ll get a taste of what’s to come later this year at the Tales Festival.
Tales of Berseria is the long-awaited pseudo-prequel to 2015's Tales of Zestiria (which we loved). Set in the same world, Berseria takes place many centuries prior to the events of Tales of Zestiria, where the world is torn asunder by daemons during a Scarlet Night (which is also, occasionally referred to as the crimson moon) and the young protagonist Velvet is on a crusade of revenge and hatred. Velvet and her merry band of misfits will embark on a journey that tries to be something that it is not. A poor script, struggling combat mechanics, and a world full of contradictions, Tales of Berseria is one of the weakest in the long-running franchises.
Faster, smoother, and bursting at the seams with content, Berseria delivers a much needed kick to the series.
If you're not a fan of JRPGs, or really Japanese entertainment in general, this game isn't going to sell you on it. For us, this game was a great starting point for the Tales series, and we are honestly thinking about giving Tales of Zestiria another go around. A fun cast of characters, a story with an intriguingly dark premise, and an interesting take on the real-time battle system. There's really not much more to be said. Game's good. Get it.
Tales of Berseria is the best Tales game that I have played since the series roped me in with Tales of Symphonia. The story exceeded my expectations utilizing the darker tone to emphasize themes of family and betrayal. The combat is easy enough to understand and worthwhile to master, so players who are not familiar with the series’ combat can jump in and learn it easily. At the same time, Tales fans who are more interested in the advanced aspects of combat have a lot to dig into. Tales of Berseria is a game that I recommend for anyone looking for an enjoyable JRPG with memorable characters and a worthwhile story.

In conclusion, Tales of Berseria is another installment in Bandai Namco’s series that manages to be a refined adventure worth taking with reliable, albeit antiquated, gameplay. While it doesn’t break any new ground in the genre or in gaming as a whole, I can still fully appreciate the polish and care that has gone into this game’s characters, writing, and combat. If you’re a fan of the series and are willing to take a trek down a darker path, this latest tale will be worth telling. If you’re like me and haven’t given the series a fair shake just yet, this is the installment to get you on board.
Tales of Berseria takes risks with its characters but ultimately keeps just about everything else about as safe as can be. Archaic level design, hit or miss combat, and some severe pacing issues drag down a JRPG that might otherwise have been stellar.
Tales of Berseria is the best Tales game in a while. Its story, while a bit too slow paced in its first 20-30 hours, is a solid tale of revenge. It breaks away from the more traditional good versus evil yarn that Tales usually aims for, instead telling a darker tale with more Human characters at its core.
Tales of Berseria still has that same old Tales of feel, but it brings some much needed revitalisation to the series.
Tales of Berseria is a direct response to all the fans of the series that felt disappointed with the lackluster Zestiria. With a much more interesting overarching story, a stellar cast of characters and many refinements to the gameplay, Tales of Berseria is easily the best Tales game since Vesperia.
