Tales of Berseria is a return to form for the JRPG franchise, with a captivating main story of betrayal and vengeance, satisfying real-time combat and an amazing cast of characters.

One of the great things about the Tales of series is that you can jump in any of the games at any time and not be lost with either the story or combat. Tales of Berseria is a great launch point for newcomers, and of course a fabulous return point for veterans. JRPG fans who have never tried a Tales of game but always wanted to, this is a perfect place to start. Be sure to have the tissues close by.

Tales of Berseria is a title heavily focused on story and field combat rather than exploring the game world, which is relatively small. Still, this concept works, although we have to mind an obsolete visual layer of this game.

Nevertheless, the story and combat mechanics makes up for anything faulty, so I can't recommend it enough to those who love JRPG games. Finally, a game where playing the villain feels kind of … right.

One of the darkest Tales of games so far. An excellent cast of traumatized characters with a nice script and character development. Although it tries to change the combat mechanics, in essence it's the same as every other game. A must play for all Tales of fans and a nice game for newcomers.

Despite the game’s lack of deeper exploration of dungeons and maps, the game offers plenty of new features such as the Expedition, where you can send a scout ship to gather items, recipes, items in different parts of the seas and the usage of a Geoboard to go around maps and lengthy walks.

Tales of Berseria mostly takes you too much by the Hand but you still get an amazing Story (as usual for the series) and some well balanced gameplay elements

Tales of Berseria is a surprise. The story and characters are dark, which is not expected of the series. The battle system got an upgrade, but the graphics have hardly improved. If you are looking for tens of hours of fun, this is the game.

With a fantastic combat system and a good story, Tales of Berseria feels like a return to form in a lot of ways, despite being more adventurous with the combat than ever before. A great series making a triumphant return.

One of the best "Tales of" to date. A charismatic main character lives an interesting story until the end.

Tales of Berseria may not be the most ambitious or innovative game ever, but that's entirely okay. It may have a handful of issues, not least of which includes its forced backtracking, occasional reuse of dungeons and its uninspired puzzles. At the same time, its characters are often likeable and entertaining, its tale of revenge is intriguing, and its combat system is fast-paced and responsive. If you're already a fan of -- or are curious about getting into -- the Tales series, this is one to check out.

Tales of Berseria feels like a Tales game made just for me. There’s so many games in the series now, and I’ll never play them all, but the characters and the narrative and the combat mechanics of Berseria just click with all of my tastes so well. For some, the lack of gameplay innovation might be a turn off, but for me, a classic Tales gameplay system combined with a unique narrative led to a fantastic experience. Fans both new and old would be doing a disservice to themselves if they didn’t check this game out.

Tales of Berseria isn't a reinvention of the series, but it delivers a more emotional story mixed with a great combat system to make this adventure worth taking.

While Tales of Berseria isn't quite as good as the series gets, once this game gets its daemonic claws into you, it's hard to put down.

Tales of Berseria takes the usually upbeat RPG franchise down a dark path that pays off thanks to a compelling story, interesting characters, and an updated combat system.

Tales of Berseria takes a positive turn with a much darker theme, a great cast of characters, and perhaps the best storyline that the series has seen for quite some time. The fast and tactical battle system is also a definite step up, but the game is starting to look dated and needs to lose its last-gen shackles. For those disillusioned fans of recent Final Fantasy outings, however, Tales of Berseria might just be the game that they're looking for, with a more traditional Japanese RPG setup that sticks closely to what it knows, while offering a new and exciting narrative direction.

Tales of Berseria will tantalize any JRPG fan with a narrative unique to the franchise while still entirely Tales. There's room for improvement on all fronts, but that doesn't stop Berseria from being the best franchise title in a while.

With everything from combat to story Tales of Berseria feels fresh, fast paced, and exciting. The darker tone for the story is a welcome change and works wonders, while the cast manages to be as memorable as any others you’d find in a Tales game.
