Sky Force Anniversary (Console Edition) Reviews

It’s very nearly the perfect indie title, bringing plenty of joy, plenty of replayability and plenty of hot shmup action for a very reasonable price. The fact that some may struggle to really appreciate its complete depth due to no real world partner opportunities just lets it down a smidgen, and the exclusion of an online multiplayer option unfortunately holds it back from hitting the big 5/5 score. Just make sure to embrace the grind and you’ll love what you find.

Shooting a certain percentage of enemies, rescuing stranded people and remaining unharmed for the whole level are the only challenges that exist.

At only $9.99, Sky Force Anniversary is a fantastic bargain on the Nintendo Switch. It may be a “re-creation” of a nearly 15-year-old game, but it looks and plays like it was custom made for this generation's systems. It may be a bit too easy for hardcore STG fans, but that just means those of us who want some frenetic arcade action gaming without feeling totally powerless are going to keep coming back to Sky Force Anniversary for dozens of entertaining hours.

Sky Force Anniversary has surprised me with its classic proposal, but at the same time so highly current, with a progression system that is not based solely on progress, but on the achievement of different objectives (medals) and the need to improve our ship to carry them out. A technical section turned out, stable, and curious when mixing a more realistic art on stage with another more retro art on enemies, which accompanies wonderfully fast action, without complexes, and that will invite us to play and play almost without giving bill. At some point if it could have been improved or expanded, but those points that we mentioned before do not blur the final result either. Highly recommended.

The gaming world and arcades have changed a lot in the last 10 years, and the simple fact that games such as this still exist is something I treasure. Even when they don’t pan out to be exactly as good as some of their predecessors, it’s appreciated. For the price, the nostalgia, or just a really fun old school game experience to play on your PS4, I’d say Sky Force Anniversary is totally worth it.

While Sky Force Anniversary may have a simple premise of flying through the air, killing enemies and collecting stars, the game as a whole offers hours of fun.

While Sky Force Anniversary doesn't do much in the way of re-inventing the shoot-em-up genre, it's a testament to just how well this style of game still holds up today. It's addictive, it's satisfying, and it encourages you to hone your skills to score perfect runs across a limited variety of levels. There's a good amount of replayability here as a result, though that doesn't make for a great deal of diversity or exciting set-pieces to look forward to. The mechanics are sound, but feel weighed down by the need to grind in order to progress, along with a serious dose of deja-vu from the environments.Still, at its low price this is a flight well worth taking, even if it only lasts a couple of hours. If you're happy to grind and enjoy a well made shooter, it's a welcome option on the Wii U.

If you can stand the grind, Sky Force Anniversary is great for fans of the classic shooter style. The pacing is done well, and the upgrade system gives you something to work for, even in death. The medals provide an incentive to aim for perfection, but their forced nature will turn off a few players. Sky Force Anniversary is worth checking out.

Infinite Dreams has managed to achieve a fantastic conversion from mobile to home console. With only minor flaws against its bosses, you can’t help but feel the need to better yourself and move further through Sky Force Anniversary right until the end.

At the end of the day Sky Force Anniversary is a gorgeous and challenging arcade shooter, and deserving of your attention on Switch even though the genre has become more crowded. Its looks are top-notch, it offers a significant degree of challenge for shmup fans, and its controls are buttery-smooth. Just be prepared to invest in the game for the long-term if you really want to see all it has to offer, which doesn’t have to be a bad thing. I just feel like the game could and should perhaps ease up the throttle, at least early on, to give people a few unlocks to better see what’s possible earlier on so they don’t necessarily give up before seeing much of what the game has to offer.

Sky Force Anniversary has been out for some time but it's only reaching the Wii U now, even if it doesn't suffer from the time lag in its release. This is a game that features an enjoyable gameplay, a good cooperative mode and a decent visual environment. Standing in contrast, there's a rather slow start which can be enjoyed by beginner players and a repetitive soundtrack that could use some variety.

And that's Sky Force Anniversary. Unfortunately, it's just “less” of what came before it. It shares so much with Sky Force Reloaded that I didn't mind going back into it. In some ways, it was fine to come back to and relive, albeit as a much shorter experience. But why pay the same price when there is a game identical to it in gameplay with more content?

Sky Force Anniversary is an endearing, if a bit repetitive, take on shoot 'em ups.

Sky Force Anniversary is a slick-looking game that is easy to pick up, play and enjoy for a while, but just be prepared to put in some serious time repeating levels if you want to make it to the end of this air raid with all your wings intact.

Sky Force Anniversary is an interesting game by itself, with a simple and accessible gameplay as well as a very competent visual environment. Where it loses out, though, is when it's measured in terms of its rather short content and repetitive settings, not to mention that it doesn't stand up to its brother game of the same series.
