Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (HD Edition) Reviews
If your love for all things Marvel or Capcom is strong, then Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is no doubt worth a look, but for everyone else it depends how much of a hardcore fighter you are and whether A.I. is enough of an opposition to keep you entertained.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was a good fighter, and the updated Ultimate game is, undoubtedly… it's, well, the ultimate version… but other than that, it's not something that adds enough things to justify a purchase, especially if already having owned the console original. Capcom and Marvel fans will surely have fun with this somewhat lazy port. The rest can safely pass it by.
Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 doesn’t really welcome newcomers into the amazing crossover battles that the game can offer, and doesn’t have any new content to really tempt a double dip from an old fan, but the visual update and just being made available again is fantastic. It’s great to welcome another fighting franchise to the current generation if you’re looking for something to play with friends, but perhaps the PS3 version can be busted out for the same experience until Infinite comes out.
In short, there will never be another fighter quite like Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The staggering roster has some notable flaws, but an admirable effort was made to provide something for everyone. The X-Factor sub-system could have used a bit more development time in order to iron out the issues. Even taking into account all of the frustrating nonsense that can occur, this game is still very impressive. The Xbox One port is really good, though there aren't enough additions to win over anyone who has played the previous version extensively. For everyone else, it's still a worthwhile pickup.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 rumbles onto PC years after its original, last-generation console release. Despite irritating infinite combos and a barren online lobby, it was worth the wait, thanks to fun fighting, included console DLC, and a wallet-friendly price.
This HD re-release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the same game that fans know and love, complete with high-paced action, team mechanics and over-the-top hyper combos that’ll take you for a ride. As a port, however, this rendition does the bare minimum and does not add any new key features while also suffering from some netcode issues. It’s still a great game for hardcore fans or newcomers looking to get into its kinetic action. At the same time, it’s also a bit of a missed opportunity.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is an excellent fighting game with an amazing pool of characters and finely-tuned gameplay. Its original release in 2011 is a critical and commercial darling still enjoyed by fans and pros around the world, but there isn’t enough new content or technical upgrades in this edition to justify a purchase for anyone that isn’t already a devoted fan.
In short, if you are new to Marvel vs. Capcom then pick this up to get ready for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, whereas more experienced players should probably give this one a miss.
Honestly, all you need to know to determine whether the PS4 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is for you, is that it's still Marvel vs Capcom 3. The strengths and flaws are well documented, and nothing has really changed from the HD re-release.
It’s a fun way to celebrate Marvel vs. Capcom‘s past, while looking forward to the future next year.
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is a funny and spectacular fighting game: a huge mix of explosions, superheroes and terrifying villains, more sparkling than ever in this PS4 version.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a one way ticket to nostalgia express if you are a fan of the Versus series.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the definitive experience on the PS4 with the jump to 1080p resolution coupled with all the post-launch DLC. It should be a good starting point for those who are new to the series while offering a returning point for the fans.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 shows its age visually, but is still as fun to play now as it was in 2011.
Ultimate Marvel vs.Capcom 3 is just a mere port of the game that we already played in PS3 and Xbox 360. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. Unless you were expecting a drastic revamp from the original title (which would be something silly), you will get the same frantic and agile gameplay that many are still enjoying nowadays.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is exactly what you would expect, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I am just glad to see it back in circulation, I do wish exclusivity would die though, making PC and XB1 players wait four months to play this remaster is flat out ridiculous. That said, get hype and welcome back the curly mustache. Marvel is back baby, and it feels so good.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 remains a superb fighter, and one that is at the peak of its power in terms of performance. Beyond that there’s nothing much for the pre-existing audience, but anyone curious about the series heading into next year’s Marvel vs Capcom Infinite may well be tempted to start here.
I was a little disappointed that you didn’t see any of the actual heralds from the comics, but just herald versions of characters already in the game.
Matchmaking issues aside, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a must-play for fighting game enthusiasts and Marvel fans.
In one major way, UMvC3 beats out the current fighting game king Street Fighter V: accessibility to newcomers. Solo players can play successive matches in Arcade Mode, or tackle the slightly more complex Heroes vs Heralds mode, using ability-enhancing cards for some added variety.
