Provided you're not short on empathy, Blackwood Crossing has a good tale to tell. The various forms of loss and growing up are dealt with quite well, while the fanciful setting gives you the impetus to keep going even if you know exactly how the tale will end. It does need some work on the puzzle mechanics, as a fiddly detection system and slow walking can be frustrating once the solution is known. Overall, this is a good first effort from the development team, and it's worth a look if you're a genre fan.

Instead of giving this review a numerical value, I’m just going to say this; buy it. You’ll thank me later.

Blackwood Crossing’s marvelous, deep and touching story overcomes the fact that it is full of bugs and very short. It’s hard to find another adventure experience like Blackwood Crossing.

An unique experience, hard to find even in other titles of the same genre and suggested to those who want to live an interactive story.

There’s a lot of curiosity coursing through the veins of this game. Its story is weird and wonderful, and every element of gameplay reiterates the narrative focal point.

Blackwood Crossing is not a universal recommendation. There are those among us who prefer fast-paced action or daring adventures to the calm and introspective nature of this kind of game.

Despite some of the technical shortcomings of the title, Blackwood Crossing ultimately is a tale that becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Though it's a brief experience that will only last a few hours, Blackwood Crossing is another title that showcases the power of storytelling in gaming as a medium, while still offering a story that you're going to remember long after finishing it. Much like the fairy tales and fantastical worlds it borrows from and references, Scarlett and Finn's tale is filled with visuals, color, and life that goes beyond our sense of reality, but Blackwood Crossing‘s emotion and connection to the player lies in something deeper.

Once you'll have finished the game and switched off your console, you'll remember Blackwood Crossing as one of the most memorable gaming experiences in recent years: in just a few hours, it will summon vivid and palpable feelings; joy and sorrow so touching as to stimulate reflection on the value of brotherly affection.

Blackwood Crossing is a simple but touching story about important things that games still rarely tell about. This little adventure is all about loss and its adoption. There's charming music and characters, but the most important thing in such stories is quality of writing. And here Blackwood Crossing, unfortunately, does not shine. Game talks with a complicated, and at the same time overly simple language. For any fan of deep and arty games it can still become a pleasant gift, but it can also leave a feeling of slight dissatisfaction.

Blackwood Crossing is a beautiful and moving game that has one too many flaws to reach its full potential.

Ultimately, if you are a console player, Blackwood Crossing is a nice little game with a decent set of controls. For PC players, while I dearly love the game (and I DO), I would recommend waiting for a patch that will hopefully address some of the woefully bad controls. Once that’s done, it’s a game you won’t want to miss.

Blackwood Crossing is a fantastic game with very polished graphics, and an interesting story. It might be a short game which can be completed in around three hours or so, but it's a fun ride from start to finish. I loved how Scarlett interacted with her little brother, not to mention her reactions to what was going on at each location. I don't want to spoil the game for you, so all I'll say is that if you're an adventure fan, you have to give this one a go.

Blackwood Crossing is not perfect, but the amount of love that pours out of the game – both in terms of the visual and technical quality from the team of developers and in the palpable relationship between the characters – far outweighs any minor nitpicks you could have.

Blackwood Crossing is a game I highly recommend experiencing. It's a game that defies explanation but has deeply emotional implications. If you're as fascinated as I am by the emerging trend of games that portray real feels then Blackwood Crossing is a no-brainer.

As it is, it's very hard to recommend spending £12 on – already a tough call for such a short game. It's not fit for purpose, even if it could still stretch over its unacceptable flaws and reach me. I will keep an eye out, and enthusiastically let you know should such a thing come about.

With its story and atmosphere Blackwood Crossing gives an original adventure and provide various emotions to the player. Even if it has a few problems such as a few loading times, a slow moving speed, a short game time, PaperSeven's title transports you into the world of Scarlett and when the final screen arrives, you only want to keep on playing. We look forward to play their next game which, hopefully, will correct the few flaws of this first soft.
