Games based on existing properties I'm unfamiliar with are always a bit of a challenge to fully appreciate but in the case of Grimm Eclipse I think my issues with it are deeper than that...

There are issues, and there is a lot to forget, but at the end of the day it does what it does well, and that is being a mindless hack and slash title. If you go too far from that, it starts to crumble, much like Beacon Academy.

There's a germ of a good idea in RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. The counter system alone makes this button-masher feel more refined. However, the rest of it — the presentation, the actual gameplay, and the lack of story — does such a terrible job at supporting this system that the overall game feels unfinished. Only a handful of fans may be fine with the title, but everyone else can easily ignore this offering.

Grimm Eclipse is full of fun, mindless combat. Though it lacks a certain level of polish, it does represent the series very strongly. Unfortunately, replayability is limited if players don't have a team of friends to fight Grimm alongside.

For all of its problems, there’s no getting around the fact that it does have the capacity to entertain for a fair number of hours when played in co-op, meaning ardent fans of the series may still want to consider picking it up.

Newcomers will be left wondering what’s going on in RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, whilst fans will undoubtedly be underwhelmed at this offering from Rooster Teeth Games.

The longer you play though, the lack of depth starts to show and things get repetitive.

A modest hack & slash that fulfills its mission of being entertaining but with a very simple story and scarce variety of combos. Anyway, it's a good game.

RWBY: Grimm Eclipse is a game that's made with fans in mind. It allows you to play any of the characters from the show as we're swept away on one of their missions. With competent, if simple, hack and slash action, a short but varied story mode and a decent amount of outside content to encourage replaying, it's a game that fans of the show or the genre may find enjoyable.

The title is a hack and slash inspired by RWBY's homonymous webseries, in general, it is really interesting, especially at the level of graphics and settings that are faithfully reproduced.
