Snake Pass is a game that evokes both satisfaction and intense frustration, often simultaneously. Guiding Noddle through the fifteen levels on offer is a great experience, though it is marred by some issues with controls, checkpoints and a wayward, sometimes difficult to control camera. There’s also nothing quite like it.

Overall, Snake Pass is something you shouldn’t pass up on. It’s a modern platformer that has the magic of the classic, while still managing to feel fresh and exciting. Although it’s worlds all feel similar, it was never a slog to get through each one.

Snake Pass is a formidable, acutely designed puzzle platformer with a unique twist, unlike anything I've ever played

The bright, lively word and cast of characters in it makes the game an instantly attractive option, but with some really impressive mechanics, and a wonderful sense of atmosphere and fun, what you’re getting from your purchase is an immensely satisfying experience.

The lack of variety in visual and even stage design makes it clear that Snake Pass did not come to enter the hall of the greatest 3D platform games, but in a market where games of this genre are starting to have a resurgence, it is a fun and unique alternative because it subverts the expected gameplay basics from a 3D platformer in a way that works very well. An overall short experience but with good production values and good hours of fun especially for the ones with the spirit to hunt all the collectibles.

As it stands, the unique serpentine physics in Snake Pass makes it stand out from the crowd, and that should be applauded. Gratifying when it all comes together, it regularly treads some nail-biting moments that only add to what amounts to an enjoyable experience that will leave you as wide-eyed as the game’s slippery protagonist.

Grab a *console* version, sit back, let go, and be ready to laugh with some friends at your multiple attempts to think (and fail to think) like a snake in this fun and challenging puzzle game.

Snake Pass is a beautiful 3D puzzle platformer, and whilst it does have it’s flaws in the control and camera system, it’s still a pleasant experience even for a platforming vet. Each level will sufficiently challenge anyone, and with an increasing difficulty curve level on level, even the most seasoned platformer will find the game challenging. Priced at $19.99 on Steam, it may be worth waiting for the sale season to start simply down to the lack of replayability and short initial playthrough length.

The temptation with Snake Pass might be throw the controller down in frustration and walk away, when faced with sheer befuddlement at the controls and the absurdity of wiggling Noodle around some tricky environments. But if you persevere with it – and you really should – you'll find the gameplay 'clicks' surprisingly quickly. And once it does, Snake Pass is a thoroughly enjoyable riff on the retro 3D platformer, brought to life in charming style and with a genuinely innovative approach to traversal and problem solving.

It’s charming, relaxing and can also provide a challenge. Snake Pass is a wonderful game to get lost in for a little while and if you can pick it up on the Switch, you’ve got a title that is great to play on the TV and on the go.

Snake Pass is a flawed experience - of that there is little doubt. But, for the most part, it’s worth your perseverance. I’d argue that the Switch version is where this game “belongs” the most. Having it available as a handheld experience which you can dip in and out of in short bursts plays right to the strengths of this game and, critically, avoids the frustrations which inevitably build up with any prolonged playtime

Snake Pass is a charming little game indeed. It takes the familiar collect-a-thon formula and turns it on its head with its fresh take on the genre. If you're hankering for an old-school platformer with some light puzzles, slide right on in with Snake Pass.

Snake Pass offers a charming and intuitive adventure that feels unlike any platformer I’ve ever played before. When slithering through the world as Noodle it really feels like you’re controlling this cute little snake – it has such an unorthodox approach in comparison to your typical platformer, but it ensures that gameplay feels uniquely enjoyable. It’s also incredibly beautiful too, with a luscious vibrant world that’s a pleasure to explore. There are a few frustrating moments along the way though, such as with the awkward camera controls and the fact that the gameplay never diversifies itself too much; I hope you like climbing because you’ll be doing a lot of it in Snake Pass! These flaws don’t stop Snake Pass being a really fun game though and one I can see myself coming back to time and time again in the future. Gotta’ get all those collectibles, right?!

It has its frustrations, especially when a mistake is made without there being a nearby checkpoint, but overall Snake Pass is a pleasure to work through.

From my first hands on with Snake Pass, I had the feeling that Sumo Digital were onto something special, and that most definitely turns out to be the case…as long as you are prepared to think like a snake.
