Forgiving a story that leans a bit too heavily on its forebears, Outlast 2 is an excellent horror game. It’s frightening, repulsive, and filled with the thrilling anxiety of the best games of its type. It does exactly what a sequel should. It delivers on all of the refinements and expansions you would expect to find three years from the original; and though its larger environments sometimes lead to repeated deaths, they also amplify the dread of being hunted. Outlast 2 made me uncomfortable, anxious, repulsed and frightened, and yet I couldn’t wait to see what it would deliver next. That’s a horror game done right.

Familiar yet terrifying, Outlast 2 mixes excellent production values with genuinely disturbing imagery and subject matter. It's a long way down to the abyss but it's worth every minute of the fall.

If you're looking for terror, Outlast 2 is packing plenty of it. It's just too bad that its flow is too often halted by overly flexible game rules and hit or miss level design.

Outlast 2 has a few solid horror moments, but undermines those scares with tedious gameplay.

Outlast 2 builds on what the original did well, crafting terrifying chase sequences with care.

Gratuitous in lieu of sense, Outlast 2 is unpleasant. Fans may lap this up but, while technically competent, there's nothing here to truly enjoy.

Outlast 2 is a decent survival horror game with nice graphics and gameplay, but loses tension due to a overused autosave system. While I had a lot of fun exploring the various environments, it just left me longing for the original.

Outlast 2 puts together all of its nightmares with amazing clarity and execution. It takes the best parts of the original and adds more variety through natural hiding spots, fantastic interludes, razor-sharp jump scares, intense chases, and more horrific foes. Not many horror games get everything to work this well together.

The larger scope of Outlast 2 does more harm than good. The confines of the Asylum from the first Outlast made for great chase scenes and intimate jump scares. With too much ground to cover, cheap kills, and weird transitions, Outlast 2 aimed too high for its own good. Its interesting story isn't enough to cover up for its poor design.

Outlast 2 brings many remarkable improvements concerning graphics and gameplay and keeps the horror, which made the first installment known worldwide. The addition of the inventory menu and the new camera features fit perfectly in the game. Red Barrels repeated the amount of horror, thrilling and scary moments along with an interesting and well developed story, turning Outlast 2 into one of the best horror games of the year.

Outlast II is a huge step forward in both narration and graphics from Red Barrels' first survival horror experiment. Even if the first chapter had a greater balance between the different gameplay mechanics, its sequel offers one of the best overall experience for those loving horror games. Ready to feel the fear?

As a horror experience Outlast 2 works as a bit of grindhouse exploitation. It's intense, it's sharp, and it's a grisly, beautiful game. But it's also so linear and tries to be so cinematic that it opens itself to comparisons to similar stories told in other media, and as weird as it is to say, Outlast 2 is also far too safe.

Outlast 2 could well be the scariest horror game I have played to date. There were a few very minor gripes, but the isolation, desolation, and desperation were noticeable throughout. The sense of fear was more impactful than in the first game, and there were parts where I played hiding behind anything I could get my hands on. I went to Temple Gate, and I did not enjoy my stay. And by that statement alone, I have to applaud Red Barrels for creating such a brilliant game.

Even after 13 hours of gameplay Outlast 2 it's a frightening experience. The game has some design problems, of course, but the flaws are forgiven when you get a true survival horror atmosphere all the way to the end.

A horror game that keeps you in suspense constantly, but is somewhat let down by its annoying and repetitive gameplay. An experience that's more enjoyable when you can share your reactions with others, whether in person or through YouTube and Twitch, than when played alone.

Outlast 2 is a more gritty take on the survival horror genre. The game features genuinely creepy atmosphere even though it has some design issues with its gameplay that might lead to some frustrating moments, it still remains one of the most frightening game that I have played this year.

Outlast 2 tries to introduce itself as a genre-defying game, but repetitive gameplay and lack of characterization have made it a so-so game, although it's worth a try. Moreover, the game gets really nasty at some points that makes it as horror as Saw franchise is. it's neither quite horror nor quite Saw-like, but you can have some fun with it for a few hours -maybe jump scare at some points- and then forget all about it.

This is an alluring and spooky game along with macabre and horrific atmosphere which shatters your peace. Red Barrels studio not only succeeded in taking new steps in survival horror genre using open spaces and exciting and puzzling escapes but also they are so successful in creating sinister and lethal zones that must be used as a unique benchmark for the movie industry.
