I admit that it was a bit daunting to review a game like Disgaea after such a long hiatus. That said, Disgaea 5 Complete does a pretty good job of streamlining things and explaining new mechanics at a good clip. While not every little thing was explained to my satisfaction, I shoulder some of the blame, as I’m sure many aspects of the game would be far more familiar had I played any of the recent entries. While there were some frustrating aspects of the game, there is far more to love. The characters and plot were especially enjoyable, though I found myself more invested in Void Dark’s Generals as villains than the big bad himself. If you enjoy tactics games and own a Nintendo Switch, you get endless hours of fun for only $59.99. That’s not even taking into account all the DLC, which I didn’t even touch for the purposes of this review. I spent some 60+ hours and barely scratched the surface of all the content. NIS America has outdone themselves once more, and I’m happy to finally see Nintendo getting a little Disgaea love. I just hope this trend of 3rd party support from fantastic publishers continues. Now if you doods will excuse me, I have plenty more game to tackle!

Disgaea 5 Complete is a great port that not only bundles all the DLC in one package, it also manages to utilize the potential of the Nintendo Switch hardware to improve the experience from the original release of the game.

In Disgaea 5 Complete you'll have a mountain of things to do. It has deep gameplay mechanics but it could be better balanced

Plenty of competition for the strategy RPG dollar is out there – Disgaea 5 Complete hits Switch days after a new Fire Emblem on 3DS, after all - but Disgaea 5 is one of a kind on the Switch right now. It's worth picking up if you have any interest in playing on the big screen. Just don't download Nisa.

Disgaea 5 Complete marks the return of the series to Nintendo consoles, and it feels like it never left. If Sony doesn't produce handhelds going forward, it's nice to know that the franchise will always have a home on future Nintendo systems. With all of the DLC included for free and the complete package that was offered on the PS4, if you have yet to experience this game, now is the perfect time to jump in!

With that established, there's little doubt Complete is the definitive version of the game, with all of its DLC scenarios on Switch included and worth exploring. Handheld mode is what really seals the deal, in effect “improving” the game's visual presentation and exposing Disgaea 5, of all things, as far more pickup-and-play-friendly than anybody probably ever expected.

The least funny Disgaea, but arguably the best in terms of the actual gameplay – and it's a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch.

The ultimate version of Disgaea 5 goes deeper than ever into strategic minutiae, standing out as a fantastic value in spite of its cringe-worthy humor.

Disgaea 5 Complete is a tough game to judge. On the positive side it offers an extraordinary volume of content, its own quirky approach to storytelling and a complex set of systems that complement each other well. Unlike some other major strategy RPG IPs, however, it struggles to present its complexity in a cohesive way, with a user interface that groans under the weight of its goals. Fans of the game and series likely adore this hardcore approach, but some more familiar with strategy games that are more focused and precise in their execution may find it hard to fall in love with all of those layers of detail. There are so many terrific parts to the game, but they get somewhat jumbled together. For Disgaea fans this game is worth a purchase, especially as it includes all DLC from the original and plays beautifully on the go. For strategy RPG fans we still give it a hearty recommendation, but with the proviso that it's more demanding and tougher to master than many of its genre contemporaries. If you're up for the challenge and time investment, and can tolerate its zany characters and settings, then it's well worth adding to your Nintendo Switch collection.

The Disgaea series may seem a little daunting at first glance to dive into, but the fact that it is a standalone story makes it well worth trying out. The game was already great on PS4, but being able to take the game on the go makes it even better. If tactical RPGs are a favorite of yours, Disgaea 5 Complete is a must pick up for any Nintendo Switch owner.

Disgaea 5 is an enjoyable game on the Nintendo Switch and is great value for money as you could literally be playing this game after the 100 hour mark and more. There's a ton of side quests and lots of customisation options to help with your characters in order for them become the masters on the battlefield. The combat system works well and more importantly, the control system is almost flawless on the Nintendo Switch.

Despite its handy portable device, Disgaea 5 Complete reminds us how the series will not evolve through time. If you ever want to farm some endless levlling through what seems to be a pile of clich's of japanese animation, this might do the trick.

Disgaea 5 is an enormously ambitious game in terms of content, systems, and battle mechanics. With a lengthy campaign, scores of side quests, lots of customization options, and tons of optional content, it's a title that will keep strategy RPG fans coming back for more.

Disgaea 5 Complete returns with devilish hijinks and the deepest tactical system in the series to date while throwing in all the DLC extras for free from the original PS4 version. The game can feel overwhelming for newcomers and requires some serious grinding to fully enjoy everything it has to offer. Tactical RPG lovers, however, will love its depth while the ability to play on the TV or on the go makes it arguably the best version of Disgaea 5 out there.

Disgaea 5 Complete is a fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch library since Nintendo's own flagship Fire Emblem series is noticeably absent on the system so far. You can see from my review of the PlayStation 4 version of the game that I love my time with it and found it even more enjoyable this time round, given the adaptability the Switch offers. If you're a Disgaea fan and own a Switch, then you should definitely pick up Disgaea 5 Complete even if you have played it already!

If you're a hardcore Strategy-RPG fan and have a Switch, Disgaea 5 Complete is a godsend. The amount of content here is incredible and frankly a bit intimidating. The depth series veterans cut their teeth on is fully intact, and the game works perfectly as a portable experience. This is immediately one of the strongest titles for the Switch and sets the standard for what third party support for the system should look like going forward.

The Disgaea franchise is beloved for many reasons; the characters, humor, and unique mechanics make Disgaea 5 unlike any SPRG I have played. On the plus side, you can take it on the go Dood!

While I have some minor gripes with the voice acting and graphics, Disgaea 5 Complete is an excellent turn based strategy RPG filled with humour and unique mechanics.
