Overall, Valkyria Revolution is definitely not a perfect game, suffering from flaws in nearly every aspect of it. Be it the war story, which shows surprisingly few brutality, the low difficulty, lack of tactical depth, enemy repetition, overload of cutscenes, in order to characterize its huge cast, or the many frame drops and mediocre AI. In comparison to Valkyria Chronicles it falls short in a lot of ways, even tho it wasn´t a perfect game either.

Valkyria Revolution is far from perfect. However, its gripping story, gorgeous soundtrack, and wealth of addicting customization options go a long way towards making what would otherwise be a rather ho-hum action game a bit more memorable.

There's plenty of gameplay time to be had with Valkyria Revolution though most of the journey is tedious and filled with overly elongated cutscenes.

Not only a disappointing spinoff for the Valkyria franchise, a disappointing action RPG overall.

Valkyria Revolution is a mixed bag of feelings for fans of the series, but may be a great entry point into the franchise for newcomers. Regardless, it's plagued with some glaring issues like bad voice syncing and an abundance of loading screens.

For fans of the series that have been waiting to return to the world of Valkyria, I’m saddened to say that this opportunity isn’t really worth your time.

A strange not-so-good twist for a good saga. Even though Valkyria Revolution aims to be a whole new game, it's hard not to compare it to the original trilogy. Even though it has an interesting story and a nice "hack´n slash" gameplay, the game's pace is slow and gameplay is too easy and not at all strategic.

Valkyria Revolution is a game lacking any semblance of entertainment value, an abject failure that should have never been allowed to happen. This isn’t just a bad game when compared to the rest of the series, but a game so wholly inept and loathsome that the other games would have simply never been made if it had come out first.

Valkyria Revolution is going to get a significant amount of hate from the roleplaying game community. Is it justified? I actually don't think so. Even though the battle system is such a radical change from the original games, the graphics are hit or miss in certain areas, and the cutscenes can be down right brutal and quite lengthy, there's still a lot to enjoy. An impressive cast of characters and interesting story, beautiful accompanying soundtrack, fun sphere grid leveling system, and a different take on the battle system more in line with action RPG's. Yes, I purposefully included the battle system in both the positive and negative category. People like myself are going to enjoy it for what it is. Others are going to downright hate it. Revolution pulls back and forth on many different strings, but because of the inconsistency, it's hard to recommend the title to anyone but the diehard fan base and those who already made up their mind on a purchase. I would implore you to try this game for yourself. You may just find that you're like me, after all.

Sega doesn't know what to do with the series and Valkyria Revolution suffers because of it.

Valkyria Revolution is a huge disappointment. The combat system is bland and repetitive and the characters are dull and uninteresting.

Valkyria Revolution should have been a single-season anime. Instead, we've gotten a game that's frustrating on the surface, boring in practice, and infuriating to reflect on. Save both your time and money.

I enjoyed my time with Valkyria Revolution and enjoyed it’s well crafted story. While it does have some issues with iffy animations and its necessity on grinding it’s not too dissimilar from other JRPG titles. If you go into the game thinking you are getting another Chronicles game you will be disappointed. But If you are looking for a decent RPG with a semi strategic battle system and interesting characters this might be right up your alley.

It was a bold step to change up the battle system, one that may pay off for attracting new players

The game is lifeless, with anime stereotypes coming and going without any impact. The effete princess. The stoic soldier. The spunky one. A conflicted villain whose arc doubly disappoints by taking the entire course of the game to play out a single face turn. After all, if he had left the axis of evil sooner, the game could not recycle his boss fight three times. Honestly, criticising Revolution for resorting to overused cliches is an insult to better JRPGs that use anime stereotypes wonderfully. So much is worth commenting on as a lesson of what-not-to-do, but the above critique is more than enough. Valkyria Revolution is a dull action game, a wafer-thin war story, and a mishandling of the franchise: disappointing whether one played the previous games or not. Gamers know that Sega has so much more to offer, even if the series might now be buried for good thanks to this spin-off. Instead of revitalising a beloved property, Revolution is a snafu.

Valkyria Revolution tries a lot of new things, but loses the Valkyria-soul in the process. The combat system is stuck between action and tactics and the style is completely different. It's only saved by an interesting story and beautiful soundtrack.

Valkyria Revolution is a noble effort at providing fans with a fresh take on the series but it unfortunately doesn't quite live up to its genre contemporaries.

I really don't get what the developers were trying to achieve with Valkyria Revolution. It pretty much takes everything that was good about the prior games and just throws it out of the window, replacing it with tedium and banality.

Valkyria Revolution is an intense, special, and downright important game, with a powerful message to share not just about war itself, but also how we also talk about, and share stories about, war.

Valkyria Revolution has the confidence of a much better game. The story is presented in a historical lense meant to pull at the player's heartstrings, the gameplay combines action RPG elements with strategy features, and the cast is depicted so as to highlight the realities of war. While that all looks nice in concept, Media Vision's execution is seriously lacking. The plot simultaneously needs to let scenes breathe more, instead of dragging them out for minutes on end. What should be thought-provoking combat turns into mindless button mashing. The depiction of war, as poignant as it can be sometimes, never manages to hold onto its brilliance for longer than a minute. There are genuinely great ideas present, both from its narrative and gameplay, but Valkyria Revolution fails to live up to the potential of either.
