Ubisoft made a Mario game of the Nintendo's first party quality. It's a surprising gem which takes everything what's great in turn-based tactics.

Ubisoft nailed its first outing with Mario, hitting all the beats with its humor, story, music, and graphics. To say that it does Super Mario justice would undersell what the publisher accomplished. This is a Mario game through and through, and fans will love it.

The game isn’t without fault — greater variety in characters and levels along with more meaningful customization would be welcome — but most of the issues are minor in comparison to how much fun the game is to play.

This rollercoaster ride of a turn-based strategy game starts out almost impossibly strong, but by the end I mostly wished it'd been over three hours earlier.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle combines one of the most beloved names in video games with a horde of manic, cartoon rabbits for a surprisingly satisfying turn-based strategy experience.

Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle was the the biggest surprise from Nintendo at E3 2017. Seemingly coming out nowhere and combining elements of gameplay that Nintendo hasn't really utilized before Ubisoft Milan and Nintendo came together to create one of Nintendo Switch's best games to date.

Mario + Rabbids: The Battle of the Kingdom is one of the most unexpected and beautiful games of the year, which carries with it a deep tactical gameplay with the integration of role-playing and adventure elements. If you own a Nintendo Switch, you should buy this game.

When I first saw the leaks for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, my mind was immediately filled with images of Shadow the Hedgehog holding a gun. It seemed like an idea that just wasn’t going to work. Now that it’s here, however, I’m pleasantly surprised that Ubisoft managed to basically knock it out of the park. Mixing some of Mario’s familiar exploration and puzzle elements with a simple but robust combat system has resulted in a short but enjoyable detour off the regular track for Mario. I do have a couple of gripes about how the team is assembled at many points of the game, but it’s not the worst thing to ever happen. That aside, there’s very little to fault with the game – I’d even go as far as saying that I’d love to see a sequel.

Hats and Mario caps off to Ubisoft: Kingdom Battle is the best Mario world so far that's not made by Nintendo and the rare kind of game where the sidekicks, the Rabbids, outshine the famous cover stars. It might be lacking in variety over time and it would have been nice to kick the plumber out of the squad for a change, but these minor flaws can't ruin the fun of an otherwise surprisingly great tactical strategy adventure.

This collaboration between Mario and Rabbids is an important one to have. It allows the Rabbids to shine to a broader audience and it allows Mario to move out of his comfort zone. When you succeed in both of those departments it shows that both of these series can do more when you put your mind to it and pour your heart into making those creative ideas come to fruition. A bold step was taken and I welcome other crazy ideas of this caliber.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the easiest strategy games to get into. It teaches the mechanics to the players well and encourages them to experiment with them. If you are interested in tactical games, you should definitely try it out. Especially, as the game is void of any major flaws. The whacky humour further adds to the charm of the game.

More fun than anyone ever expected, and then some. One of the few Switch titles worth owning – a weird one, to be sure. If you haven’t bought a Switch yet, this game and Breath of the Wild will be worth it.

Mario & Rabbids is far more than ‘my first strategy game’. It manages to make Rabbids likeable and even at times quite funny. The mashing with the Mario-verse means that everything feels vibrant and Nintendo-esque.
