Odyssey is certainly not a bad game. While much of the content is boring, Mario controls wonderfully which lets you create your own fun. The 2D sections are entertaining distractions and the nostalgia-bait in Metro Kingdom even made me smile and that hasn’t happened since 2011. However, following a dog around and ground-pounding on the dirt he digs up isn’t what I want from a 3D platformer or a Mario game. Odyssey is there for you whenever you need a moon-generating playground to mess about in. You can pick it up and play it whenever you like. Go ahead, give it a quick go. You’ll get a moon.

Hitting many highs, and a few lows along the way, Super Mario Odyssey is one of those titles that will definitely get attention, both from those looking to buy a Switch, and those that currently own one. If you're a Mario fan, you're probably already sold on the idea, but even for those who are looking something that offers that "Nintendo experience" you can get nowhere else, this is surely a game you'll want to pick up.

Mario's first turn on the Switch is fun, but lacks the innovation and creativity of Nintendo's best.

Super Mario Odyssey is easily the most colorful game this year, and oozes with both fun and excellent game design. The collection of power moons has its dull moments, and after a while the game starts to feel a bit repetitive.

A true tribute episode of a video game monument, Super Mario Odyssey collects the superlatives that make him, somewhere, the most accomplished episode of the saga.

I love Super Mario Odyssey, but it isn't flawless. The kingdoms are mostly open and varied, and they encourage fun exploration. However, the main story and beginning of the game are a bit of a letdown. The postgame is where experienced players will find the most enjoyment. This is not the best Mario title, but it pushes Mario in a new and refreshing direction, and it may even develop into a Switch evergreen. There are plenty of things that I'd like to see rectified in the inevitable sequel.

Super Mario Odyssey is the best platformer I've ever had the opportunity to play. Engaging, full of content and interestingly implemented ideas. The whole is complemented by the way Nintendo polished everything, thus giving the game a unique atmosphere.

There is very little to complain about when it comes to this game. The visuals are perfect, the gameplay and controls are solid and the level design is diverse and enjoyable. I wish the game had of tried to take a page out of Zeldas book and shook things up a bit more, but overall it was still a highly enjoyable game that I would recommend to any Switch owner.

Super Mario Odyssey is brilliantly bodacious, ingeniously incredible, and wonderfully wild from beginning to end.

Mario is back in great shape and... It leaves you under wadding! His new adventure offers great gameplay, through which it is difficult to break away from the console

It's what gaming, in its purest form, is capable of being: fun.

Super Mario Odyssey is another gem in the Switch library. Varied, funny, cute and unbelievably addictive. This game could be an ideal platformer, but uninspiring boss battles and heavy emphasis on collecting items after the main story prevent SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY from the perfect score.

Super Mario Odyssey may not reinvent the Mario formula, but it is a supremely satisfying adventure with a plethora of content and a penchant for the zany. This is a must own for Switch owners and fans of platforming.

If you're a Switch owner, you probably already have Super Mario Odyssey. If you do not, and you even remotely enjoy platformers or Mario, I don't know what you are waiting for – pick up this game.

At its heart, this Mario game was made for video game fans of all ages. The new open worlds and fancy graphics are there to appeal to younger gamers, while older Mario fans get these fantastic throwback moments where the game switches to 8-bit mayhem, allowing them to showcase decades old skills. Cappy’s powers make for some fresh puzzle solving and a new line up of supporting bad guys have been added. Toss in a storyline that is totally bonkers, really all that matters is that Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, and you end up with an Odyssey for the ages.

Super Mario Odyssey does not disappoint. It's a worthy successor in Mario's 3D gaming line and a must buy title for the Switch.

Odyssey is best experienced with its secrets preserved, and the less you know about going in, the better. Even if you think you know what to expect in this globe-trotting journey, you're going to find plenty you didn't expect, and something new to love.
