Call of Duty: WWII is a superbly fun game that boasts a strong showing across its three major sections.

While it's enjoyable, it falls short of the large-scale multiplayer experiences offered by the likes of Battlefield 1, something that the CoD franchise is calling out for – especially in a WW2 setting.

I'm having a hard time with this review, because when the game works, I had a great time. However, with all the current issues, it is tough to advise anyone to pick up this title. If you are a Call Of Duty fan, you might be able to look over these problems, but the average player will want to wait for updates.

A derivative, middling campaign, good multiplayer, and a ton of content means that Call of Duty: WWII is more Call of Duty - for better and worse.

The biggest problem with Call of Duty: WWII is that it feels like three different games packed into one. On one hand, you've got an emotional tale about the 1st Division as they trudge through war zone after war zone to win the fight against the Nazis. And on the other side, you have more comical instances in the B-grade campy horror movie-styled Nazi Zombies, where you blast through a lovely rural village with a Tesla gun and lightning bolts.

Sledgehammer takes Call of Duty back to its roots, refining rather than redefining the series for the best entry in years.

Bottom line, Call of Duty: WWII's campaign may not quite manage to fully satisfy players' cravings for a terrific war story, but its online play is an addictive and multifaceted blast.

Call of Duty: WWII is mediocre. I enjoyed it anyway.

Call of Duty: WWII is a satisfying experience. It is also easily one of the best-looking and feature-packed iterations of the franchise to date. But the cracks are definitely showing, with years of repetition getting ever-harder to disguise. The game will please a huge contingent of its dedicated fanbase, but its reliance on the status quo might be wearying for others.

I want to shout it from the rooftops, Call of Duty is back. Just when it looked like the franchise was going to get wildly out of hand, credit has to be paid to Activision for recognising that the only way forward was to strip away the deadweight and return to its roots. When it comes to bang for buck, WWII triumphs over most. Throw the new social space in alongside what is basically three games and Call of Duty might very well be king again.

Call of Duty: WW2 is quite a successful return to the series' roots. I was expecting more "Call of Duty 2 in modern graphics" instead of the not so great Band of Brothers clone, but it is ok. I do not feel like I wasted my time with this game.

It's not a bad game by any stretch, but as a whole it's an underwhelming imitation of past glory.

When looking at the big picture, Call of Duty: WWII is absolutely a fun time. With a multiplayer that includes a ton of unlocks and a new social hub, as well as a zombies mode that features some incredibly intense moments, players could easily get lost spending hours upon hours playing with other people. Aside from the unfortunately short campaign with flat and boring characters, I believe Sledgehammer Games succeeded in bringing the series back to where it started, while at the same time putting their own spin on the Call of Duty franchise to make it relevant for the newer audience.

Call of Duty returns with a game that comes back to its roots in terms of gameplay. The campaign, even though its too short and linear, is very well crafted. The multiplayer and zombies suffer the loot crate fever, but its content is really good. This is an improvement of the saga taking into consideration its recent years.

A solid and life-breathing addition to a previously waning franchise, Call of Duty: WWII plies fans with the gameplay the know with enough bells and whistles to please franchise fanatics and newcomers alike, despite not quite reaching the hallowed ground of the series best.
