With Nintendo having little experience with DLC, there was always a question as to if the developer could do it right, and it seems unquestionable that the team knocked this one out of the park, adding some new content, giving a completely new game mode, and also including cosmetic little bonuses for series fans out there. The next DLC has only been hinted at so far, but it has been shown to be based around the fan-favourite four champions, and if it's even half as good as this then fans are in for a treat.

A great DLC for one of the best games of all time. The Master Trials adds a good quantity of content for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. If you are looking for a hard challenge, you should check this expansion.

The Master Trials doesn't make any epochal changes to the established Breath of the Wild formula, but by packing in one of the game's best quests, some welcome new features, and a hard mode to be reckoned with, it more than paves the way for the starrier story expansion to come.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's first DLC pack, while not essential, tremendously capitalizes of the game's fantastic mechanics.

While the DLC Pack 2 will provide us with some new story content, the DLC Pack 1 still provides a solid amount of goodies to keep Breath of the Wild fans occupied through the summer months.

Raising the bar when it comes to the enemies' strength will force the players to plan their approaches in more strategic ways while the Trial of the Sword will push their endurance and tactical creativity to the maximum. Adding to this are Link's new outfits and something known as The Hero's Path, which will consolidate Breath of the Wild's magnificent experience and stir up new reasons to return to the game.

If you are a fan of Zelda or even Breath of the Wild, this DLC is a great addition to an already great game. If you were looking for some sort of story content, you will not find it here. $20 might seem a bit steep, but the content provided here will give you many hours of fun.

The costumes are loot for fans, and the Trial of the Sword is an entertaining test. Even so, nothing here substantially builds upon the core game

None of the additions are essential, but all of them are interesting to at least some degree. But you'll have to wait till DLC Pack 2 to know if the expansion pass is really worth it.

The Master Trials is a story of humble beginnings. In Trial of the Sword, you battle through 45 levels after starting with nothing but your fists and survival instincts. In Master Mode, you can play through the game a second time with a far greater challenge.

Trials is a hodgepodge of stuff that should have been patched in and stuff worthy of extra development time, but since there's still another chapter that promises a new narrative and a dungeon -- the Season Pass might be worth the full price yet. Until then just ask yourself how much you play Breath of the Wild, read some trusted opinions, and go from there.

While Breath of the Wild's first DLC pack contains some fantastic moments, on the whole it feels light and, frankly, not yet worth the cost.

It’s extremely difficult to say whether the Expansion Pass is value for money. While the Master Trials DLC contains some great additional features, it’s a little light on content at present. If you’re on the fence about the Expansion Pass, it seems sensible to wait until we learn more about The Champion’s Ballad before you invest. However, the Master Trials is still a great package for anyone still venturing through Hyrule.

DLC for the best of the best. Most of DLC Pack 1 is wrapped up in Master Mode and the Trial of the Sword. I welcome more options for players of Breath of the Wild, but I'm surprised there's not more here for the casual or mid-level player. If you're not as adept at the game, The Master Trials are probably not for you, leaving you to wait for the story-focused DLC Pack 2.

The game's first expansion plays to that strength by letting you work your way through it at your own pace. If you're looking for more story, though, you'll have to wait until The Champion's Ballad, the second expansion, serenades players this fall.
