Codemasters has tweaked and refined a Formula one driving experience that is, as of writing, unrivalled. Project Cars 2 lurks just round the corner, but it would require an awful lot to overtake this.

Ultimately, despite all its attempts at becoming a story driven title, F1 2017, just like its predecessor F1 2016, remains nothing more than a racing sim. Yes, it has an immense amount of mechanical depth, and the core driving mechanic, regardless of the setting, is incredibly enjoyable. But the title as a whole is like a fishing rod without a hook. The rod is there, and so is the string, but the bait is simply tied to it, and the second one grabs onto the bait, they’ll swim away. And that’s because there’s nothing to keep one attached to the hypothetical rod once the bait is gone. And unfortunately, the average gamer, despite the early impressions, will most likely abandon F1 2017 within a week, and only the old guard of the franchise will stand by it until the next year’s iteration.

F1 2017 is another leap from last years game. While it won't reinvent the wheel, the addition of classic cars, a more in-depth career mode and tougher AI makes it a significant improvement on 2016.

With over fifteen different race tracks to test you, a range of weather conditions and the unlimited possibilities for modifying the numerous cars available, F1 2017 is anything but repetitive. The tiny details in this game make this the most authentic driving experience yet. One that truly puts you in the driver’s seat.

F1 2017 is perhaps the biggest game in the franchise to date, but still feels strangely empty as its new content doesn't really change things enough from the previous games.

With F1 2017, Codemasters has reached that stable plateau you see from established sports franchise like FIFA or NBA. This is by no means a major overhaul – if you've bounced off of these types of racers before, F1 2017 won't try to re-convince you of any merits. But nor should it need to.

At first glance, F1 2017 may appear to be a minor update to an annual franchise, but the truth is that it's a real evolution for the genre.

A great and fun racing game that perfectly represents the emotions and the strategy of the Formula 1's competitions.

F1 2017 is the best in the series and arguably one of Codemasters best titles. A few minor flaws slightly blemish what is a brilliant game, which looks, sounds and feels fantastic to play. Furthermore, a more extensive career mode with a host of other modes gives the game great variety and longevity.

F1 2017 is the best representation of a complicated sport that Codemasters has offered. Offering its deepest and most authentic career mode, it draws players into the sport like no other F1 game ever has. You will learn the in-and-outs of the sport and feel like an engineer yourself. F1 2017 successfully hits 60 FPS at 4K resolution with a sacrifice in graphical detail. The racing is true-to-life on the track, but the A.I. is severely lacking. Fans of the franchise will really enjoy 2017.

F1 2017 is more than just a steady continuation of Codemasters' racing series, it's a major step forward that isn't content to simply rely on this year's new cars and regulations. From adding more R&D options to the career to having classic cars and invitational events help break up the long racing calendar, there's a lot to keep you engaged here. Not only that, but you can see that Codemasters have plenty of ways to continue to grow the series over the next few years.

F1 2017 is a near flawless F1 game, and easily the best yet. Codemasters have managed to fit in enough options that the game is playable for people of all skill levels, all the while keeping it a true F1 simulator for those hardcore fans that want an unforgiving experience; and it’s all bundled in a beautifully presented package with tonnes of replayability.

F1 2017 feels like the final realisation of several years of work, but it also ushers in another phase for the annual series. In terms of core gameplay, the handling models, the force feedback, and the physics engine have all been drastically improved, resulting in a greater sense of control and a much better chance of interpreting the car when its forces are out of balance. Improving this core gameplay aspect alone, whilst addressing the major bugs of last year (like the dodgy AI), leads to a much more immersive and authentic driving experience. Overall, considering the impressive amount of additional content - especially new short course variations, the introduction of classic cars, the new championship mode, the redesign work on many existing tracks, and the improvements to presentation and cut-scenes - F1 2017 certainly is an impressive package, which hardcore fans will find difficult to resist.

This is undoubtedly the best F1 game Codemasters has put together. An incredibly deep career mode, excellent championships and the return of classic cars mean there's never been more F1 racing to be had. There are some bugs and annoyances, but I'm hopeful these will be ironed out in a patch soon after launch.

F1 2017 has improved considerably and brought the long-missed Classics into the present. Codemasters is now in a good place with the series. Things have changed in the real Motorsport, but there some subtleties you wouldn’t normally notice, like the wider stance that Formula 1 cars now have. The game is full of changes and improvements, like the handling due to that wider stance, and F1 2017 sits as a game that’s balanced all-around. While F1 2017 is the official videogame of the 2017 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, it is also the only one, and more importantly – it is the best one.

F1 2017 is another superbly authentic recreation of modern F1. However, the sport's current complexity will be overwhelming for most, and the returning classic content is nowhere near as good as it should be.
