Skeleton Boomerang is a challenging 2D platformer with a lovely variety of levels, weapon variations and goofy enemies to battle against.

As a whole, Skeleton Boomerang is good. The game strikes a nice balance between being short enough for casual players to finish while also hiding lots of different things for completionists. Though the lack of checkpoints can be frustrating for those who aren't used to it, the game feels fair, since most of the enemies and obstacles can be easily overcome if you put some thought into it. There's nothing remarkable about the title, but for $10, it's a solid purchase.

Skeleton Boomerang is a lovingly-crafted throwback to the 16-bit era. Hunter moves with all of the grace necessary to survive the horrors of the isle. Controlling his boomerang is almost a game unto itself. Every moment becomes so much more interesting when it involves the curved wonder. Exceptionally skilled players will get a lot of enjoyment out of maintaining combos. The soundtrack can't be praised enough. A playthrough will take around four hours, and it won't outstay its welcome.

An entertaining and nicely constructed love letter to the Metroidvania games of old. If you're the kind of person that got excited for the SNES mini then this is one to watch.

Poor controls and a bland aesthetic mean that Skeleton Boomerang is a game you won't be returning to any time soon.
