The hungry Wurm is back with Nidhogg 2 and I am more than glad! With better visuals and add-ons like new stages and weapons, Nidhogg 2 brings honor to its predecessor. The game offers brilliant fast-paced combat with hilarious and gruesome moments and this is exactly what I was expecting from it. Nidhogg 2 is a must if you want to spend some quality time full of laughter with your friends! Feed the big bad worm!

The original Nidhogg was a huge surprise to me when it released. It turned out to be a game that I never even knew I wanted and I wound up sinking a ton of time into it. For better or for worse, after the success of the original title, Nidhogg 2 carries with it some expectations. The good news is, fans of the original will no doubt like what they find here, even if the sequel doesn't quite feel as fresh as the first game did.

Messhof have taken the unique thrill of the first Nidhogg and channelled it into an excellent sequel that develops the experience and makes it essential. Pick it up on Steam and get ready to ruin your many friendships

Nidhogg 2 offers plenty of new content for fans of the original, and while its new art style isn’t for everyone, the game manages to build on the original’s level design and make for much more challenging melees that test your reflexes and friendships.

Just like the original, Nidhogg 2 is at its best when played in multiplayer, with little else to recommend it.

Built very heavily upon the mechanics of its predecessor, Nidhogg 2 mostly aims to presenting a new flare and new options...but those options make the experience harder to get into, producing a game mostly for people who already played and loved the first entry.

Nidhogg 2 keeps the arcade element that make the first one so successful and includes some mechanics that improves the gameplay loop and makes it more strategic and a little more deep of what we thought.

Nidhogg 2 is definitely a step up from the original game but it's just not enough of one to make it feel like a sequel.

Overall, Nidhogg 2 is a successful follow-up to the dynamite original, instantly making this one of the must-have local multiplayer games on Switch. Not much is there for the solo player, though the online multiplayer is nice. The ideal setup is a slew of friends passing off controllers in the tournament mode, but even in less than ideal multiplayer scenarios, it's still a chaotic and wacky blast.

Nidhogg 2 manages to improve over the feats of its predecessor by adding just the right amount of new ingredients to keep the experience intense and simple but, above all, fun. We're talking about competition on a very basic level but with a very polished and sophisticated execution. Simply put, Nidhogg is a game that you should try at least once.

Don't expect Nidhogg 2 to change the core gameplay because its unique gameplay is what attracted many players to fight each other countless times. The new art style and weapons added a refreshing layer that made it deeper, smarter and more chaotic.

Given that this game shares such a strong base with its predecessor, it'd be easy to get whether or not this is a sequel or a rehash, but the point is that Nidhogg did what it did perfectly and enjoyably. It was a simple game and concept that was best unadorned and uncluttered with other mechanics, modes, etc. Nidhogg 2 is fully aware of that and instead of changing what already works. It adds more in ways that don't detract from the core of the game, instead choosing to give it a healthy dose of identity, character and zany atmosphere that will stick with you much longer than bland colored square men in basic environments. It plays beautifully and the quick kills and high tension matches make for a perfect two-player experience.

Whereas the original Nidhogg was a wickedly fast and immediately loveable party game, Nidhogg 2 pushes the boundaries and arrives with mixed results.

A charming fighting game that offers a great experience in co-op. It might be short in length but you will be able to enjoy a good amount of replay value in a party or with friends.

In the end, I was pretty disappointed with Nidhogg 2. After a few hours of playing I don't see myself going back to it any time soon. The weapon changes and graphic changes were enough to turn me off. Although the game can be fun to play for a few minutes at a time, all of the extra additions were just a little too much. I'll stick to playing the original, I think.

Nidhogg 2 is just as fun, fast-paced and frustrating as the original, but there feels like a little less charm this time around.

Nidhogg 2 is a decent sequel to the first title. Playing with friends will provide you an experience so exciting that'd wipe out the disappointment caused by the short length of the single player. Though changes done in the gameplay are not as much as expected and the combat is still as simple as before, but the all-new graphics and visual effects, also the excessive violence, has made Nidhogg 2 a unique and interesting game.

Nidhogg 2 is a worthy follow-up to the original. The new additions give the game some depth while still keeping intact the spirit of the game. For those who appreciate the prior title's simplicity, it's still there if you're willing to tweak some options. In the end, the game is a perfect multiplayer title in short bursts, and it's a game that's worth keeping in your library for such an occasion.

Nidhogg 2 is a solid multi-player title that is bogged down by a handful of issues. The online play is currently a mess, the single player is lackluster at best and the new weapons do more harm than good. It's a testament to how rock solid the gameplay is, though, that the title is still worth checking out if you have friends willing to embrace its weirdness. For now, I'll stick with the original, though.
