Another fairly recent RPG has made the jump from mobile platforms to modern consoles, this time with Asdivine Cross, the third in a series. But don’t label this as another fluffy phone game. As this review makes clear, something special is going on here.
Asdivine Cross turns out to be a surprisingly pleasant adventure to plod through. It is not too expensive and not too long, either, so it can easily fit in between meatier titles played at home and in shorter sessions on public transport and the like. Its shortcomings in terms of presentation may make it harder to grow fond of, especially early on because it does not do quite enough to make its interesting characters and story stand out. It is nevertheless a title with enough good qualities and even some surprising efforts that wouldn't normally be expected from a smaller title such as this, which all contribute to make it a recommended buy for people yearning for a 16-bit style RPG that is not a remake of something already existent.
Using KEMCO's highly detailed graphics style combined with a sound plot that has a few surprises along with multiple endings dependent on character interactions, Asdivine Cross is a worthy addition to the series on Nintendo Switch. No matter the length between plays there is always an indication of where to go next, plenty of weapons and armour to collect, a wide variety of monsters to battle with, and a delightful cast who never fail to raise a smile even when the outlook is bleak.
Asdivine Cross is a decent old-school RPG that features a memorable game world and a charming cast of characters to match. If you're looking for a challenge, it might not impress but those who just want an easy-breezy JRPG will likely have a good time.
