Yakuza Kiwami does a remarkable job of bringing a PS2 era cult classic to modern audiences in a fresh way, even if some poorly aged parts drag it down a little.
Now while I wouldn’t say that Yakuza Kiwami is a perfect experience, it’s damned fun and I can see where other brawlers got their inspiration over the years. With a solid story, great mechanics and characters that you actually care about, I regret having taken this long to get into the craziness of Kamurocho with Kazuma Kiryu.
Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the original Yakuza, which not only updates it in its technical section, but also knows how to implement all the improvements and possibilities of the most current Yakuzas. Without being perfect or as complete as the last installments, it is still the perfect entry point to the franchise, especially if we have never played any, or made it to its first installment so many years ago.

Yakuza 0 might be the better game, but Yakuza Kiwami is the best way to experience where the series began. Additions like 'Majima Everywhere' inject a sense of knockabout fun to proceedings, while cracking heads is a persistent, unending delight. There's no excuse not to dive right into Yakuza Kiwami this very second.

Yakuza Kiwami is a fantastic remake of the original PS2 game. It improves & expands Yakuza 1 to create an experience that is new & fresh for new audiences, while being familiar & nostalgic for the old fans at the same time. Being a faithful remake, Kiwami is not as good as the newer Yakuza titles and seems a bit outdated in some spots; but just like all the games in the franchise, is a blast from start to finish.

A great game, but one that pales in comparison to Yakuza 0. Still, if you enjoyed Yakuza 0, you'll enjoy Yakuza Kiwami, though the story is different and the gameplay might have taken step back.
Yakuza Kiwami isn't the most innovative game under the sun, but it builds on such a solid foundation it's still definitely worth playing. However, due to the lower budget and slavish devotion to the decade old original game, it doesn't quite hold up to Yakuza 0.

I can’t really knock the game down too much for being what it set out to be - a faithful re-imagining of an eastern classic. This is the standard for which all remastered game releases should aim.
Yakuza Kiwami on PC follows the original version for PlayStation 4 so faithfully that while playing we'll often doubt which platform we're playing on.

Kiwami has a much smaller scope than something like Yakuza 0 but I think that also gives it a lot of focus. While the series is now famous for side quests and random activities, Kiwami has a focus and drive to it that I really enjoyed by the end.
But besides all this, it is simply a good time. And there is an unmistakable, open-hearted joy to fixing problems for people as an intimidating agony uncle. Even if it usually involves hitting them with a bike first.
Yakuza Kiwami is the first of several planned remakes of the original series, and chances are all of them will wind up on the PC at some point. It's been a long wait for many to see such a revered classic on the PC, but it's one that's worth every bit of that patience.

The original Yakuza has been remade into a sequel to its own prequel, but although it's perfectly competent it feels outdated compared to the newer entries.
Yakuza Kiwami is a blast! Play as the no-nonsense badass Kazuma Kiryu as you take back your city. Be the hero and you crush enemies or spend your time eating and visiting the racetrack, the options are all yours. The combat and story come together perfectly to make a game you will not want to put down. If you are looking for something completely over the top, then you will love Yakuza Kiwami.
