NASCAR Heat 2 is like a car that’s fast on fresh tires but slowly fades on the long runs. The building blocks for a great NASCAR game are all there. Monster Games just needs to tweak the setup to run at the front.

In all regards Heat 2 is an upgrade over last years game but the change to the Career Mode is a big sting to the game overall. What should have been a bigger and more fully fleshed out Career turned into a revamping and starting over. The racing is still fun and you can easily have a great time in NASCAR Heat 2, but it’s not without its flaws.

NASCAR Heat 2 deserves credit for enhancing and improving on the previous game in the series and the Career mode does bring potential longevity for fans of the genre, even though the currency for doing well is worthless and the seasons drag on when you’re being thrown into other series’ all the time. Having no way to influence the performance of the vehicles, and the only differential from each other being a simple star rating, it detracts from the freshness of the experience.

NASCAR Heat 2 is a solid stock car racing game that suffers from a bit of a grinding in its Career Mode. Outside of that it's a complete racing game experience that feels great and honors NASCAR's spirit.

It's just disappointing that career mode feels more like a chore rather than a fun experience where you can "live the life" of a racer trying to move up the ranks. Thankfully other modes like Challenges and Multiplayer keep the fun coming in a game that, in spite of its on-track shortcomings, represents solid progress for the series.

Neither the updated career mode, challenge mode can save this game from the fact it really can't offer much to someone wanting a little more involvement from their gameplay.

NASCAR Heat 2 offers a lot to do for players. It might feel a bit rushed, but it's extremely addicting and fun. The racing is a consistent experience and Career Mode features aspects that haven't been seen before. While it may lack the options of true simulation racers, the admirable A.I. should make up for that. Top that off with some excellent visuals and a coupon for a real race ticket, and Heat 2 continues to trend in the right direction.

NASCAR Heat 2 is a definite step up from its predecessor, but it's still lacking a layer of polish that would propel it towards appealing to a larger racing audience. Those who want an authentic NASCAR racer should be satisfied with this year's installment, but there's just too many minor issues that bog the racing down a level. Still, it's clear that Monster Games listened to feedback of the original, and they're certainly on the right track.

NASCAR Heat 3 provides a merely okay racing experience that's just not worth it's $50 asking price.

For those looking for more diverse disciplines in their racing, other titles will be better suited, but for NASCAR fans it's a great title that pays homage to the sport.

NASCAR Heat 2 is a well-built racer with honest intentions and intense action. The robust Career mode conveys the toils of a real racing career – sometimes a little too accurately as it can start to drag. Nevertheless, with three disciplines and suite of offline and online modes, this is an entertaining experience – just be aware that it doesn't have anywhere near the budget to rival the various other racing games you can buy.

In 1080 the graphics were decidedly less appealing, more so than the normal difference between 4k and 1080.

NASCAR Heat 2 is a huge disappointment and massive collapse of the promise given by the decent predecessor, NASCAR Heat Evolution. The game's controls are loose and worse than ever, and the problems of the first, including some patently stupid glitches and exploits, are still fully present. The game looks fine, but it does not play well at all, and represents what may be a sign that NASCAR just won't ever translate well to the video game world.

Despite adding a bit extra to this year's career mode, there are some technical issues that plague the experience. Shame really, because NASCAR Heat 2 can be quite fun at times.

From a pure fun factor, NASCAR Heat 2 delivers. Driving is a blast, even though it's not all that realistic. Some will embrace the more arcade feel and others will scoff at the more simplistic racing concepts. However, no one should dismiss the depth that has been added to the modes and the massive leap the franchise has taken in just one year. The future could be bright for this series.

The no-frills quality of NASCAR Heat Evolution meant NASCAR Heat 2 had to show a little more than just great racing this year, and it does in spots. There's a lot of variety in NASCAR Heat 2, it's just more immediately seen in things like the one-off races or online multiplayer.
