Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA Reviews
There's no question that Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is a beloved entry in the franchise. However, bringing it to the PS5 offers next to nothing to the entire experience, bringing only the most miniscule of adjustments, another Trophy list, and a free PS5 upgrade.
The Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana port is a complete mess. Full of problems and technical flaws, this is the worst version to play the best chapter of the series.

Ys VIII on Switch manages to offer the best handheld version of the game, but it comes with its own fair share of problems that hold it back.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is a wonderful game, but this PS5 upgrade doesn't do much to justify its existence. You get the DLC and an obtuse 120 fps mode, sure, but you're basically still getting the exact same experience as if you played the PS4 version on a PS5 or Pro. The game itself is highly recommended, but console upgrades should have more features and this feels like less than the bare minimum.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is here and delivers exactly what the fans expected.

Ys VIII is a lovely and harmonic mixture of Hack 'n' Slash and Role Playing games and has successfully accelerated the pace of gameplay without sacrificing the originality of this series.

A great new adventure awaits fans of the series and those looking to try out Ys for the first time should have their fair amount of fun.
Ys VIII's smooth combat, amazing music, and fun-to-explore environments make for a memorable and rewarding experience. Unfortunately, you may want to steer clear of a Switch port that mars that experience with technical and localization issues.
If you’re a long term Ys fan, sure the story content may not be to your liking, but as it’s own thing, once the game lets you go out and explore, it’s one of the best in terms of gameplay.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana might not be the most gorgeous game there is, but it's an excellent JRPG adventure that will keep you busy with a hefty amount of playing time.
Excellently playable anniversary of the Ys series with brisk action and some serious dramaturgical weaknesses.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is a title to consider for several reasons. The fact that it incorporates the different mechanics in a balanced and non-excessive way makes it a very solid experience, the only sin being that this new version for PS5 does not add practically anything new compared to versions of previous generations. However, the humorous aspect present is really great and it gives a lot of pleasure, always with a smile on your face!

It’s a must play title as an ARPG fan. Other than some of the visual expressions, there isn’t much to nitpick about. The story progression is very solid and the ending will leave you with some emotional lingering if you were concentrating on the plot throughout the whole game. Explosive action, fun and appealing characters are some of the highlights of this game. We welcome you to join Adol and Dana in their adventures towards Eresia.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana is a title that takes a while to get going, maybe too long, which may be enough to put some people off early and the story is rather sub-par. Those that stick with it will see where the game truly shines.
"Classic, down-to-earth action-RPG."

As a tightly designed title, with every aspect intended to serve a single common purpose, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is actually a pretty strong entry in the series. Its simplicity really is its strength, and players looking for some sense of adventure should be able to find a good one in this. Additionally, that simplicity also makes Ys VIII accessible to players who have yet to experience this neat and fun series.
It’s another win for Falcom as they continue to churn out quality games and be the envy of every developer in the genre, and we wish them the best as far as this great series gaining more noticeable mainstream attention.
Ys VIII not only stands up to its contemporary competitors, but also beats many of them. I'd rather play this than Final Fantasy XV's gorgeous, dragging combat and half-hearted open world design any day of the week. And in my book, that is no small feat.
Simply put, everything in Ys VIII feels real good.
YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana was certainly a great playing experience.
