Pillars of Eternity is an elegant, beautiful, well-written piece of craftsmanship; it's proof that if we really want to, we can go back, but what we see there can't deliver on our fantasy.
Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition on PlayStation 4 is, with no doubt in my mind, the best console port of a classic-style isometric RPG that has been seen in years. Brilliant use of the controller in place of a keyboard and mouse tie in together with the gorgeous effects, compelling storylines, incredible performance and challenging though oh-so-rewarding combat to deliver a masterpiece to the millions of console owners the world over. Originally released on PC in March 2015 after an incredibly successful Kickstarter the year prior, Pillars of Eternity final makes its triumphant entrance on consoles and it is glorious.
A worthy successor to the computer RPGs of the late 90s and early 00s, and a fine example of an electronic Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
Pillars of Eternity on Switch is my favourite way to play the game and it's yet another great reason to own a Switch.
Pillars Of Eternity is an absolute joy to play through. With the main campaign and two expansions included there’s well over forty hours of excellent RPG to get stuck into. It’s one of the Switch’s best ports because it’s one of this generations finest titles.
The world is vast and there are a lot of things to do. It can be very overwhelming at the beginning but once you get the hang of it, the game can be very fun and fullfilling. It’s a full-blown old-school RPG so be prepared to do lots of questing and all that. It certainly didn’t get me interested at first but the more I play it, the more I uncovered its many wonders and delights. It’s a game worth taking a second look into so don’t be discouraged or dismiss it the first time you play it. It’s more than it leads on. It’s a great adventure if you invest your time in it.
Whether you are a veteran RPG gamer or just someone trying it out for the first time, do not expect Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition to be that perfect experience for the genre. However rest assured that you will have a lot of fun exploring the beautiful world that is in front of you along with a beautifully written story. It is a great adventure rich with ideas.
Pillars of Eternity is a great addition to the RPG genre while adding its own uniqueness. With the world looking gorgeous, and the story is top notch, with a wide cast of interesting characters it's hard to imagine this game as not being a classic but the console port does come with its flaws just like the PC version.
The story, design and writing styles are brilliant with some excellent moments and lots of hours to delve into.
I’ll keep it brief, Pillars of Eternity is a masterful love letter to old school RPGs, making it an absolute must buy for adventure connoisseurs.
Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition is a heavyweight and can be considered a current genre reference. It is as simple as that, without beating about the bush. The enormous success and the popularity with the fans has ensured that the successor was financed just as record-breakingly and will surely be just as successful. The guys from Obsidian, who were considered the continuation pros for a long time, have shown what they can do with Pillars of Eternity. It carries the great classics like Baldur's Gate 2 in front of it, takes over strengths from there and yet brings an incredible amount of its own to not be stamped as a copy - quite the opposite. The adaption to the consoles has been successful so that you can reach more players with this masterpiece. The balancing act between modernity and nostalgia is impressively successful. Impressed already 2015 on the PC and can also the second look in 2017 on console just as convincing. Interested players will find the Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition both as a physical retail version (distributed by 505 games) at the retailer of their choice, as well as the digital version in PlayStation Store (directly distributed by Obsidian) at a price of currently about 50 euros. This is absolutely justified, considering the two included expansions, the enormous game scope (playing time easily between 50-80 hours depending on the joy of exploration) and the successful revision for the consoles. If you also consider the total playing time of about 60 to 80 hours, depending on how extensively you deal with the game world and how much you do side tasks, Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition is really worth its purchase price.

Isometric RPG fanatics, rejoice! First-time players, maybe do a bit of research! Lovers of good Switch ports? Wait for a patch!
Damn RPG lovers, the Switch has been a terrific return to Nintendo fully delivering a variety of options in this genre...
If you're a casual RPG fan then you likely won't enjoy Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition but those who relish in complicated old-school RPG systems, immersive dark fantasy worlds, and challenging encounters will find a lot to love here.
Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition offers a massive and valuable content. thanks to its extraordinary writing and deep role-playing elements, everyone can enjoy the rich and detailed world of Eora. But unfortunately the long and numerous load times, low frame rate and weak companion AI, prevents the game to reach its full potential on consoles

Pillars of Eternity's reputation for quality is well deserved. It's definitely worth checking out, whether on other platforms or when the Switch version is fixed up. For now, the version on Nintendo's latest is an interesting curiosity with some pretty heavy issues. And it's not the first time I've seen that phrase used in relation to an Obsidian-developed game published by another company.
When it comes to writing and storytelling, Pillars of Eternity is a class act. Obsidian had complete freedom to pursue their vision, and it shows in the impressively-constructed world and excellent characterization. Every side-quest, no matter how minor, has at least some significance in the development of the protagonist. Again, it takes time to adjust to the controls, but they work very well. Players can comfortably lean back, relax, and micromanage when necessary. However, the mediocre frame rate and long load times mar the experience. Still, fans of the genre will appreciate this fantastic game.
It is, without a doubt, the best old-fashioned isometric RPG available on console, so if you have a hankering to get stuck into something you can really sink your teeth into, look no further.
Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition is a must for any fan of the genre, especially when it comes to old school. We get an excellent atmosphere, addictive for long hours gameplay and an interesting storyline with many plots. It's just a pity that so often and for a long time we have to watch the loading screen.

A huge title, rich in content and made playable on consoles in an almost miraculous way. Knowing that you always have the vast world of Eora in your pocket and that you can also play short sessions thanks to the portability of Nintendo Switch is no small added value, the interface is clear and readable despite the size of the screen and feeling part of the adventure, especially for lovers of role-playing games, is instantaneous.
