The fans of the first game may be miffed at some design choices, but the overall design makes all nitpicks easy to overlook for an enjoyable grind.

A great sequel to a great game. SteamWorld Dig 2 takes what made the original fun and expands on it, adding several new features to keep the experience fresh.

In summary, SteamWorld Dig 2 is a stellar addition to the Switch, and it's a great throwback to the classic 2D platformers and side-scrollers of yesteryear. There's more to the game than just the main story mode, and going off the beaten track to discover side quests, relics and other secrets is very rewarding. From the unique plot to the charming visuals, SteamWorld Dig 2 excels from the off. I especially loved the Western style music, which suits the theme of the game really well. Indie titles have been flooding onto the Switch since its release, and the highly-impressive nature of them has me excited to see what comes out next.

For those of you looking for a game to work at; a game to break apart piece by piece, finding every secret, and beating every challenge. For those of you who like item progression, and the slow but sure enhancement of movement and gameplay. For those of you looking to continue your SteamWorld saga. This game is for you. This is a love letter to collectors, to diggers, but sadly remains a flawed jewel.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a beautiful and charming game with a satisfying mixture of exploration, puzzles, and mildly challenging platforming. The more treasure you collect, the more abilities you unlock, which in turn, lets you collect even more treasure. It's a simple yet addictive loop that pushed me forward until I beat the final boss. Unfortunately, the lack of a compelling endgame meant I didn't have much motivation to continue past the ten-hour mark.

Where the first title came up short because it was over so quickly and the monotony could set in, SteamWorld Dig 2 goes the extra mile by introducing a ton of fun new abilities that open up the world in all directions, putting platforming skills to the test throughout a greater range of diverse locations. Whilst the main game is still over fairly quickly, it is time well spent with Dorothy, and there is plenty to seek out for anyone that can't get enough of all that scavenging.

SteamWorld Dig 2 isn't just some rush-job sequel with limited appeal outside of the game's existing community. There are enough changes to the SWD2 formula for the sequel to appeal to those who weren't hooked by the first SteamWorld Dig without losing what made it popular in the first place.

SteamWorld Dig 2 feels a bit like the beginner's guide to sandbox games with its relative simplicity, but it maintains a sense of grandiosity and proves nonetheless entertaining with its Metroidvania-style adventuring and its marriage of both linear and nonlinear gameplay elements.

Anyone looking for a weekend well spent can't go wrong with SteamWorld Dig 2; it is the very definition of a great sequel. Alongside the larger world and new features is a terrific amount of refinement, with each and every aspect given a little bit of extra attention. However, the basic formula remains unchanged. The bulk will be spent mining ore and selling it to buy upgrades, and although performing these tasks isn't required to progress, it's really not something that can be ignored entirely. For what it's worth, this entry does everything possible to make the process addictive and fun.

Steamworld Dig 2 is better than the first one in every single aspect. The level design is outstanding and the graphics are charming as ever when it comes to Image & form. The best indie game of 2017 so far.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is perfect fit for users of portable gaming devices, such as Nintendo Switch or PlayStation Vita. But game will look great on a big screen TV too.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is just about as competent a Metroidvania game as you're likely to find in 2017. Its platforming and combat is solid, and its exploration is always a joy. What this fun sequel lacks in ambition, it makes up for in polish and charm.

Overall this game is one of the reasons why one should buy a Vita or a Switch. I’m not saying it’s bad on the PS4 or the PC, but for me this game is really better on a portable game console. The game mechanics are not so original but it delivers what I want for the sequel of the original Steamworld. This is one of those $20 games that is worth every penny, though this may be a simple platformer, but a rather ambitious one. I miss the old 2D platformers like Metroid and Megaman X, and this is by far the closest new IP to those games that I so adore.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a really great relaxer that will certainly shine a little more on portable gaming devices. It is on the go that he is an ideal companion to impress you. Really well-crafted tasks, simple yet interesting story or very pleasant gameplay are a guarantee of fun.

Steamworld Dig 2 builds a solid metroidvania esplorative game upon the foundations laid by its predecessor. Better combat, better level design, better graphics and more in depth gameplay makes this one of the best indie titles available on Nintendo Switch.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a game that — much like the original — has no issue reveling in its simple yet undeniable gameplay loop. Fans who expect much of the same will be surprised by the polish and excellence that a hand-crafted world, power ups, and more dynamic art bring to the table. Even with the audience-limiting post-game content, this should be considered a must-have this Fall for PC and PlayStation platforms, and especially for Nintendo Switch owners.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a worthy addition to any library, but stands out on the Switch because it works great as a portable game and also looks amazing on a big TV. I took about 15 hours to track down every collectible, but it'll probably take most people around ten for their first playthrough. It's perfectly playable with the Joy-Con, but I used a Pro Controller for most of the game to take advantage of the cross pad. If you haven't gotten your fill of Metroid gameplay after playing Samus Returns, you'll definitely enjoy delving into SteamWorld Dig 2.
