I'm sure if I had have played the previous Summon Night games I would have enjoyed Summon Night 6 more. The foundations are all there as a tactics JRPG, with solid production values and sound gameplay mechanics. What lets it down - and badly - is the assumption that people are familiar with all the other Summon Night games… most of which were never actually released in English.

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders is a great Strategy RPG, with a fun story and an involving and rewarding gameplay. Unfortunately, it suffers with the poor quality of its voice acting and some problems with its archaic presentation.

While strategy RPGs may be harder to come by these days, Summon Night 6 is a thirst quenching oasis for any genre-loving desert travellers.

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders excellently brings together visual novels and tactical RPGs. Fans of the visual novel portion may be turned off a bit by the English voice-over work, but the story itself is amusing.

A strange but respectable SPRG experience but doesn't stand out from the crowd.

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders really surprised me. I can honestly say I am not usually a fan of visual novels, but this one to me never felt like one. This is a colorful and fun VSRPG (I think that works!) with loads of enjoyable characters, an interesting story, and a fluid combat system. While the game might have a bit too much extra dialogue, the story itself is full of charm, doing a great job of keeping you engaged. The combat flows along at a brisk pace, never feeling like you are on the battle field for too long, but not feeling rushed either. The ability to carry your progress between PlayStation 4 and Vita is a welcome addition, with the game looking and playing great both across both platforms. Gaijinworks should be commended for a great job in localization, and Western gamers should hope that this series continues to make its way out of Japan.

Summon Night 6 proves that a decent localization can help a series that has very little presence in the West. With some unique SRPG mechanics as well as good character development, Summon Night 6 could easily become a fan favorite in the West and hopefully pave the way for future and past entries in the series to be localized. At this point, I'm excited to wrap up this review and continue to spend some one-on-one time with Toris (I see you quickly going to Google to figure out who she is).

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders might be a contender for one of the most cringe-worthy dubs in recent JRPG's, but don't let the audio choices fool you. There's still a solid strategy RPG filled with cameos that fans of the long-running series can fully appreciate.
