From its rich, detailed pixel art, to cheesy lines, from ironic commentary to flat out mayhem, Tower 57 comes off as an action-filled, top-down twin-stick shooter that’s a lot of fun to play through.

Tower 57 is a great game for those who are looking for an old-fashioned top-down shooter. It may not be something that this generation of gamers can enjoy, but it’s something that can be a great homage to the classic arcade games of the 90’s.

The game is definitely being polished constantly, though, as was made apparent with a recent update that allows you to switch characters with a special meter on the fly, and I would definitely want to see more updates to the game in the future. Despite the minor issues I've had, Tower 57 is definitely one of the games I'd love to play again with a friend. It’d definitely be a good addition to your collection of co-op games.

Hey, speaking of legs, this is a game where enemies can remove yours, leaving you to flail around helplessly as a torso in a desperate bid to fend off enemies with whatever crazy weaponry you have. Of course, that’s assuming that your arms haven’t been removed by a dinosaur, because that’s also a possibility, and you’re not going to be shooting anyone without arms. The fact that such sentences can be written in complete seriousness speaks to the utter absurdity of Tower 57, but it should also be mentioned that the game isn’t so wrapped up in craziness that it doesn’t do anything else.

Tower 57‘s old school approach to twin-stick shooters in the modern era failed to impress as a complete package. Parts of it on their own like the visuals, physics, upgrades, and elemental properties are all really cool, but the core combat and traversal of Tower 57 really ruined the experience. Pixwerk is comprised of two individuals, one a veteran and one newcomer to game development, and there’s some really great ideas trapped behind retro ideas. I like what’s on offer here, but it comes cautiously recommended.

Tower 57 is altogether a solid game. It doesn't quite deliver twin-stick gameplay on par with its presentation, but it's still pretty enjoyable. The variety of weapons is nice, and the scenarios presented in each stage make good use of them. It's also great to a visit a world that's so lovingly crafted. The sprite work and animations are very well done. If time permits, gamers should strive to fit at least two playthroughs into their busy schedule, just to see everything.

Even with all the issues in Tower 57, like being too easy and too short, it's still enjoyable and reminds everyone of why some old games like The Chaos Engine became classics. The graphics & animations are great, the soundtrack is well-composed and the gameplay is engaging and fun in both single player & multiplayer modes

All in all, Tower 57 is an old school action game that reminds you of good old Pixel Art days, and priced only at 11.99$, it'll bring you some really joyful times. Although due to pretty short gameplay, the joy would not last long enough.

Even with the issues that arise from massive gaps between checkpoints and a few niggles here and there, Tower 57 is still a blast, accomplishing its goal of reminding us why these types of games from the Amiga era ended up being classics.

If you are a fan of pixel art or Amiga-style twin-stick shooters, you will probably have a nice time with Tower 57, especially if you are playing with a friend. Unfortunately, if you are playing in single-player, the title's flaws become a lot more noticeable and annoying, leaving me tepid wanting. If the game was polished up a bit more and made its way to a co-op friendly console like the Nintendo Switch, I could recommend it more, but as it stands, Tower 57 is best suited for those I mentioned above.

You'll have an example off the top of your head, but I'm struggling to think of the last twin-stick shooter that put a big emphasis on downtime between blasting, with NPCs, a decent chunk of story, and an RPG-style upgradeable roster of characters. That's what Tower 57 rather modestly offers, all through very pleasing chunky 16-bit art.
