The Sparkle 2 EVO has nicely colored environments set against minimalistic, highly contrasted backdrops. There isn't much variety in the stage designs though, and some of them are fairly empty. The audio is simple and pleasant but there are two stages with some constant audio crackling. You get to experience seeing the many stages this creature goes through as you progress through the relatively short campaign which will take you roughly two hours. The game is short, but it encourages you to play through it multiple times so you can try to end up with a differently evolved creature by the end of your subsequent save files. There are few differences between these final evolution's other than their base form. Those being the carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. It is a game with virtually no story and doesn't have much to draw players to it other than its nice visuals. However, being a $5 game, not much more should be fairly expected of it. If you want a slow-pace, simple game with nice visuals, then you might consider buying this game

It's at relaxing while advancing along the evolutionary scale that Sparkle 2 EVO performs best, thanks to its simple design and to the implementation of the game's evolution and survival concepts. As a more competitive piece of gaming, it does less good as the matching mode is a bit of a disappointment and the game's actions often feel inconsequential to the player.

Overall, it's hard to recommend Sparkle 2 EVO on Nintendo Switch. The underlying premise is good, and when executed right it can make for a very fun release, but this one feels lacking in some areas. Perhaps the game can be patched to increase its content or add a new mode or two, but in its current state, it's not a very fun release.

Sparkle 2 EVO has an interesting visual and sound design, but lacks a truly compelling gameplay hook. In its attempt at catering to both the tense competitive gaming crowd and the chill experiential group, it fails to fully entertain on either front. it's neither challenging nor relaxing, which in turn limits its appeal.

Sparkle 2 EVO is not a bad game. It is however, poorly fleshed out and feels very uninspired, there are a few glimmers of hope such as a competitive mode but these just don't do enough to make the game feel interesting. If you're after a short relaxed experience then Sparkle 2 EVO is likely to scratch that itch but for anyone looking for more then don't expect much here.
