Aces Of the Luftwaffe: Squadron does a lot of things right over its short duration. Tight gameplay, small innovations to the shoot 'em up genre and terrific local co-op. Unfortunately, the grind to level up characters and lengthen the playtime turns what was once fun into a tedious and frustrating slog.

An entertaining and direct shoot em up, which tries to differentiate itself from the rest of the titles of the genre with its particularities. Although being a mobile port, you certainly notice the seams. Even so, it is ideal to pass the time.

It's not that I didn't like playing Aces overall, I'm just frustrated because I can see a great game underneath the clutter of skill lines and odd design choices.

With support for up to four players, Aces of the Luftwaffe - Squadron is a good pick for those seeking multiplayer shmup action.

Proven design principles make Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron easy to pick up for first timers and friends roped into multiplayer, but those experienced with scrolling shooters wont find anything new to hold their attention.

I highly recommend that you get Aces of Luftwaffe Squadron on Nintendo Switch as its a fun shoot 'em up with an interesting power-up system and lots of content to enjoy. The one complaint I'd have for the game is the small slowdown experienced during more action-packed sequences, but it's not a deal-breaker since it doesn't happen everywhere – the developer will probably patch this soon.

Delivering the classic vertical shmup gameplay combined with a modern day skill tree that proves to be both fun and addictive. A fully voice acted cast of characters adds charm to the already great gameplay and well designed levels and bosses. There were a few framerate drops along the way and some relatively lengthy load times, but ultimately these are minor complaints when talking about how great the overall experience is.

All in all, Aces of the Luftwaffe – Squadron is a fun endeavour if a little simplistic at times. It is definitely recommended if you're a fan of shoot 'em up games and are looking at something a bit different.

Really, there's not much else to say here. Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron tries to go its own way in a crowded genre, but it fails to light that proverbial fire. Surviving a constant barrage of enemy fire is supposed to be thrilling, but it's just not the case here. Even during the most intense shoot-outs, some will find it hard to stay awake. All in all, this shmup is tough to connect with, let alone enjoy.

If a game’s purpose is to entertain player, then Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron is a valuable small game that can made few hours of joy and nostalgia for you. Dodge massive amounts of bullets in challenging air battles and kill all enemies to finally reach some dangerous boss fights.

Light input lag and lengthy load times aside, Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron is an excellent party style shmup the likes of which are very rarely seen. In fact, no other shmup quite like it, in how multiplayer-centric it is, comes to mind. It may look rather simplistic, but it proves to be top notch in its game design, apart from the fact that the game is not quite as enjoyable in solo as it is in multiplayer. For all those out there able to gather three or even just one or two more players for long enough to see the full experience through to the end, however, it turns out to be a memorable piece of software, and an enjoyable experience that, who knows, may bring the band of playmates back together for more beyond the scope of the single adventure.

Although it's not up there with the best shoot 'em ups, Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron provides decent enough gameplay that can be enjoyed with up to four simultaneous players.

With America’s future in your hands, I never wanted the action-packed mayhem in Aces of the Luftwaffe: Squadron to end. Bursting with character and more than enough enemies to mercilessly shoot from the skies, it is in the skill trees that let players tweak the pilots to match their own playstyle and the chance to recruit your friends as wingmen that it scores the most success.

Aces of the Luftwaffe is a solid Shoot Em Up and plays out particularly well in multiplayer or when playing solo on the move. For a first Nintendo Switch game, Handy Games have done a fantastic job in producing a game without many technical hick-ups, as a result, if you are in the market for this type of game you can't go far wrong here.

At first glance, Aces of the Luftwaffe – Squadron doesn’t seem to be much more than a solid shoot ‘em up with a cartoonish art style. It does add some little twists to the formula though, and, despite its minor performance issues, it delivers a fun arcade experience that fits perfectly on a handheld, and gets better with friends.

I am absolutely in love with this game even though until I reviewed it I had heard almost nothing about it and that’s simply criminal. While I’ve played quite a number of modern arcade-style shooters I don’t think as a total package any of them have impressed me as much as Squadron has. Every aspect of the game feels like it was put in place with both skill and love and I’d say if you have ever enjoyed arcade shooters at all Aces of the Luftwaffe Squadron is well worth picking up! I think it has earned its place at the top of the genre and serves as the bar other arcade-style shooters will be measured by.

Aces of the Luftwaffe – Squadron is a great example of a modernised, old school plane-based shmup. It’s pure bullet-hell combined with perfect controls and a pleasing aesthetic. From it’s multitudes of oncoming smaller enemy bogies to its gigantic bosses, there is never a dull moment within the game. Its premise is simple – kill everything on screen before they can kill you, but as you progress throughout the game, this simple task becomes much trickier. One thing which will keep you on your toes is the handicaps of each squad member as they all play through their own episodes of terror and sicknesses. With its additional support for up to four players, I can’t help but recommend this to all fans of the shmup genre!
