If you can stomach the rather high price, Steep: Road to the Olympics is a good addition to those who have yet to tire of the core game. The range of mountains in Japan is fun to go through, while the Olympic events in Korea are different enough from the rest of the title but fit in with the gameplay mechanics. Though the story mode is rather weak in presentation, it's a good refresher for those who have been out of the loop for a while.

For a sports title that strives to be adventurous, Steep's year-old snowboarding gameplay is starting to feel somewhat limited. Pulling off a sick combo still feels satisfying (as does racing down the slopes at breakneck speeds) but there's a sense of repetition there.

With more than 50 new events in two regions it has plenty to offer for fans of winter sports and the Olympics in general. But sadly you can only use your snowboard in story mode.

Steep: Road to the Olympics is a separate expansion, meaning it's not included as part of the season pass. That's a shame because, if it was, it would be easier to recommend. For a game all about freedom of choice and spontaneous activity, with quite an arcade-centric physics engine, it was clearly going to struggle to convey the technical side of the Winter Olympic Games. The 'Be a Legend' story-mode seems rushed and ill-devised. The footage of athletes is poorly integrated and the narrating and tutoring is all too intense, especially when the experience is so fragmented and dull. Japan, on the other hand, is a beautiful and large region, which really does expand the Steep world with a new aesthetic, new event types, and new challenges. Hence, Steep fans who persevere with the first segment, will eventually receive an impressive content injection. Fans of the Winter Olympics, however, will probably find this one quite underwhelming.

Steep: Road to the Olympics adds a ton of new content that will surely please fans of the base game. However, for those who weren't able to get on board with the game's free roaming aesthetic, there is little new that will change their minds. While the new Olympic story campaign offers some much-appreciated structure, it is over quickly, and players are left with an avalanche of content and no map directing them where to go next.

This is a nice little expansion that doesn't really add much for the upcoming Winter Olympics despite what the name might imply, but it feels like a good extension of the base game with some new content.

Steep is a refreshing and unconventional take on the snow sports genre that boasts a more open, chart-your-own-course approach than its more structured brethren. It's not going to be for everybody and hardcore racing junkies will want to look elsewhere. If you enjoy experiencing the mountain as opposed to simply conquering it, however, Steep is definitely worth jumping into.

While not an actual representation of the Olympic Winter games, Road to the Olympics new races are an interesting addition that fits very well with the core mechanics of the game. The contents of Steep have proven to be expanded positively over the course of a year, resulting in the best time to give it a try.

Road to the Olympics may not be a complete Winter Olympics game due to limited number of sports, but it surely is a great Ski and Skateboarding game that will keep the fans of the genre busy for many hours.

All in all, Steep: Road to the Olympics doesn't do much to upset the formula. There are tweaks and refinements, but at its core, this is the same uniquely playable game that delivers something nothing else quite manages. If the prospect of doing it all over again on a staggeringly beautiful new Japanese mountain appeals, then step up to the podium.

Games like this need a good soundtrack – Steep only partially delivers on that.

The freestyle events play to the title's gameplay core, but the other Olympic events aren't a fundamental part of the experience. The Become a Legend mode is more of a long, drawn-out tutorial than a career mode

A fun addition to Steep, with plenty new events and slopes providing a nice change of pace to the base game. Yet if Steep annoyed you because of its buggy nature, then it probably won't win you back over.

This is a very large DLC, with lots of content, recommended to all those who loved Steep. The excellent support of Ubisoft Annecy has allowed Steep to be much more enjoyable, thanks to a series of improvements that have allowed us to overcome issues related to the basic product.

Steep: Road to the Olympics’ intention are great by base, but it’s the very limited amount of content that is its biggest issue. At least, it was a good way for me to find out how much changed since the original launch game.

For those who jump into it feet first it's easily worth the price. Being able to hurtle down yet more mountains with all the available disciplines equates to huge amounts of fun, and there's nothing else quite like it available. This is an expansion in the traditional sense, and while its self-contained story is little more than a diversion, it's got a lot more going for it.

What it comes down to is: Do you like Steep? If you haven't played Steep and you're intrigued by Road to the Olympics because you're a fan of the winter games or whatever the case is, definitely read our review of the base game first. It's not going to be for everyone.
