The jump to Norse mythology was a bold change that has paid off. The new gods and new setting really shake things up. The changes to the combat system are a little clunky at first, but you get the hang of them after a while. The switch of focus from Kratos mindlessly killing everything to a relationship between a man and his son is a new step for the franchise and is the most enjoyable part of the game. From start to finish, you will find more and more things that impress you about this game. Everything is built to perfection. Whether you like this kind of game or not, there no denying that God of War is a beautiful masterpiece.

God of War has one of the greatest stories ever told in a video game, filled with moments that will never be forgotten. This is a "mic drop" that creates a high standard for future releases.

This game is really a “must buy”. And for those who thinks this is something really far from the God of War we used to know, don’t worry, this is God of War 4 for sure, a game that makes worth to get a PS4, and a great start for a new story about our favourite spartan warrior.

God of War is a special project. It is celebratory to attest the high level of technical and creative work put here during its five years of development. From the way they reconstructed the combat, how they opened up the scope of its world design geared towards exploration and gameplay experimentation, how they delivered an excellent narrative with a good script, good dialogues and characters that are not one-dimensional and even the way they present the credits, all of its aspects are almost untouchable. Santa Monica Studio was able to completely change my perception of this property, something that only a masterpiece of this high-caliber would be capable of.

God of War goes all out in delivering a fantastic story, brutal combat, lovely visuals, and tons of content. This is easily a strong contender for one of the best games released this generation.

After playing all that the much-hyped game has to offer, I can now say that Santa Monica Studio has provided us with something that I didn’t think would work - a matured entry in the series that showcases a vulnerable side to the iconic, violent god Kratos. With a host of major changes, SIE Santa Monica Studio took big risks in bringing back and updating this beloved series, but their work paid off, since God of War is easily the studio’s best title yet.

"God of War" ties in with old traditions and yet makes much better. The series has grown up and "God of War" undoubtedly has the potential to become the action adventure of the year. Multifaceted characters, rich enemy chunks, an elaborate skill system are just a few of the many criteria that are simply right in this title. Even though the fights are varied and brutal despite the new perspective, it's above all the quiet moments in which "God of War" shines especially well. It is the story of a father marked by war, who only begins to grow through the curiosity and perseverance of his son. The whole thing is embedded in an almost unreal scenery, accompanied by an epic sound and a well-done soundtrack. A masterpiece that will not only captivate genre fans.

There is no other way to put it, God of War is a masterpiece. It takes a huge step away from its roots but still manages to hold onto the things that made it great in the first place. The new direction has set up a lot of potential in the future and I can’t wait to see what comes after this.

I said it once and I'll say it again - God of War is one of those few rare games that truly define a platform. I'm confident that many years from now it's going to be one of those titles you see scoring high in the Top 10's of our current gaming generation. The game truly pushes the hardware where it matters and the resulting product is nothing short of perfect - a must-buy for a PlayStation owner.

If you own a PS4 and are a fan of narrative driven single player experiences God Of War is an absolute must play title. It’s action packed main narrative and extensive side quests will keep you addicted for around 40 hours. The highly developed world and characters backed by incredible writing cements the team at Sony Santa Monica as one of Sony’s top first party studio’s. This game could easily be the best first party game released this generation. It’s likely pretty far away but I can not wait to see what they have in store for us next.

The one word that comes to mind the most when playing this game was spectacle. There were amazing spectacles when just wandering around the world or rowing in your boat while Mimir relates the history of the Aesir. There was also amazing spectacle when you fight the massive bosses that you have come to expect from the God of War series. Surprisingly some of the greatest spectacle comes from the human sized bosses who quickly reveal themselves to be other Gods. You discover only a couple hours in that this game has the greatest superhero fights you’ve ever seen in a video game. This game takes around 20 hours for the main story, and around 15-20 more hours to finish everything else (over twice as long as previous God of War games even though it’s the same standard price of $59.99). During none of that time did I feel like I was just going through the motions. I never felt bored, I never felt underwhelmed, and I never felt like the game was taking control or agency from me. This isn’t just an amazing “experience”, this is an amazing game. So yes the other reviewers are correct that it’s a masterpiece. But it’s not a masterpiece despite being a God of War game, they didn’t leave us fans behind. It’s a masterpiece because they took Kratos and they made him even better. Not only did they make possibly the game of the generation, the anticipation for a sequel is rabid and will not abate until we have it in our hands.

Santa Monica jumped into the void announcing such a groundbreaking new installment. And the result could not have been more satisfactory; God of War is one of the great titles of the generation. Ambitious at all levels, Kratos - and Atreus - mark the future that the saga will take from now on.

God of War is a more grounded and personal journey for Kratos. The game excels at world building, combat and exploration but suffers from some flaws with its lack of enemy variety and pacing near the end-game.

God of War is an exceptional game that modernises an antiquated formula while carrying forward and expanding upon the conventions that gave the series its own identity. Everything God of War is known for is here, but in brand new, elaborately constructed ways. Such reverence is given to the series’ history without fear of reinventing it, and the result is an incredibly high-quality experience far surpassing those that came before.

It's worth a playthrough just to see the dynamic between father and son and how well-crafted the world is, just don't expect much in the way of an actual story and be prepared for all questions you may have while playing to be thrown back at you at the very end of the adventure.
