Despite its easy difficulty, Kirby: Star Allies is a great Kirby game for old fans and newcomers alike. Its mix of nostalgia and new content make it truly shine.

Overall I was very happy with my time playing Kirby: Star Allies. It's not quite the system seller other Nintendo first-party titles are and doesn't really do anything new, but it's definitely a very fun experience for both veteran fans of the series and newcomers alike.

Everyone's favorite puffball is back, bringing with him the best platformer on Switch, but not the best installment in the series.

Kirby Star Allies brings some of the most trademark elements of the Kirby series, including the extravagant visual look and the always growing set of abilities of the title character. On the other hand, it pushes the series' easy-going difficulty setting too far and sets the threshold too low for the players to feel any challenge and in the end, this ends up harming the experience more than helping the player.

Star Allies is a respectable entry in the Kirby legacy, but it isn't likely to be held up as one of the better entries. Maybe with some more content, I'd be warmer to the whole experience, but I did have fun and definitely appreciate Nintendo making yet another co-op platformer I can enjoy with my family.

A wonderfully chilled out platformer perfect for those who just want to relax, also perfect for those who want to game with a partner who doesn't normally game. The easy to master controls and cutesy visuals are peak Nintendo and, while the game isn't very challenging, sometimes that is what is needed.

"Kirby's Switch debut trusts in old tricks and co-op."

Kirby Star Allies fails to move the series to the next level. Instead, it adds a silly gimmick and does nothing special to stand out against other platformers.

Kirby Star Allies started feeling like a slog for how easy and mundane the adventure felt at times, but despite that I wanted to see myself to the end of it as it does have some neat mechanics with the many possible team formations. I do highly recommend this game for Switch owners that are new to video games.

The beloved pink puffball returns in Kirby Star Allies, this time with the ability to recruit friends into battle. As a Kirby game, this one is accessible as ever and the addition of couch co-op as well as extra modes is welcome for families. It’s a still a bit too easy as far as platformers go and the AI can be inconsistent at times. For Kirby fans, though, Star Allies delivers another charming platformer that will suck your time. It's an adorable, family-friendly romp for the young and young at heart.

Fans will love Kirby Star Allies' cameos from every corner of the franchise, and new players will find the platforming imminently approachable. While this adventure may not be as deep as some of Kirby's 3DS outings, it sure does bring the joy.

Kirby Star Allies is a great addition to the franchise that presents cooperative gameplay in a way that's comprehensive and fluid. The level design is some of the best I've experienced in a Kirby game and realizes the potential of a cooperative platformer. It's an utter delight that will have me coming back time and again.

All in all, I feel Kirby Star Allies was well worth my time. For $59.99, I got around 16-20 hours out of the game and managed to 100% it. It did have some disappointing features, such as lacking a hidden unlockable final world (a mainstay for the series) and no Hard mode for the Story, but it makes up for it with a lot of variety and even more heart. It’s easily better than Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, but I don’t know if I prefer it to the duo of Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot. The 3DS really did a great job of showcasing the potential of the series, though I do feel this is a step in the right direction for the console games. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll definitely get more out of the game, especially if you play it with friends. But even if you play it solo, Kirby Star Allies is a joyful and entertaining romp in the beloved series. Now for me to just cross my fingers and pray for a Kirby RPG next…

A bit of a step down from what came before, but still a solid and fun entry in the series, especially when playing with friends.

Overall, Kirby Star Allies sticks too close to the safe boundaries with its conservative design choices. This is all but a blip in the series' long history, and I am hopeful that HAL Laboratory will be able to bring back to its former glory.

Kirby Star Allies is the first installment of the series on a brand-new console and it bears all the signs of a somewhat rushed game that's testing the waters on new hardware. That being said, it has a gem of classic Kirby gameplay, it's nostalgic and immediately enjoyable from the moment you pick it up to the moment you put it down. If you enjoy Kirby, pick Star Allies up, but keep your expectations moderate - it's not a perfect game, it's just a good one, and that's fine.
