You can describe Bombslinger as a refreshed and modernised Bomberman. The story of revenge adds a motivation to the game when moving through randomly generated maze to face our old gang.

Bombslinger offers a fun, engaging take on the Bomberman formula that turns it into a challenging dungeon crawler. It feels a bit familiar at times, but on the whole, it manages to stand up and do its own thing. A great addition to any Switch library

Bombslinger is a fun time whether playing alone or in a group but its tough and often frustrating difficulty can prove too punishing at times. While I welcome a challenge, levelling up your character and purchasing an assortment of upgrades only to have them stripped away upon death be it through mistake or controller accuracy just plain sucks.

Ultimately, Bombslinger takes the Bomberman concept and runs with it. It's a whimsical, engaging and hugely entertaining bomb 'em up that will keep you coming back, even when the Bombslinger's thirst for vengeance is slaked.

Bombslinger is an excellent take on the Bomberman formula. The changes this game makes feel like a step forward that the series it was based on should have taken. The controls are tight, visuals and sound design are great, and the gameplay is a lot of fun. There are some minor annoyances, but those are not enough to hinder the overall experience. I recommend this game to any fans of the Bomberman series, or even those who enjoy an arcade style game you can play with some friends.

I really did enjoy Bombslinger, it's a great mix-up on a classic gameplay style that does something entirely new.

Overall, Bomberslinger is a proper tribute to classic Bomberman games. Despite my praise for the game however, I would like to add a caveat. For fans of the classic games, Bombslinger is a rewarding experience. If one does not follow the classic games however, the experience can very much be dampened, leading to a solid but merely okay adventure. For $11.99 on Steam and Nintendo Switch, it is worth considering what one expects from this game. Overall, I played for about 5-7 hours for this review. In the end, let’s hope this inspires even more developers like Mode4 to provide their takes on other classic franchises.

The amount of longevity one will get from Bombslinger depends on two factors: your skill level and access to local co-op players.

Bombslinger is fun... a lot fun! Moreover, it is pretty cheap and available on Steam, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. If you like pixel-art games with detailed and beautiful visuals and want to have some nostalgia along with new features, this game is a must. Especially if you enjoy casual games which offer fun gameplay and which you can play every day for an hour or two and have tons of fun. You will not regret buying this game.

Being a fan of Bomberman, I knew I was going to enjoy Bombslinger – I didn’t anticipate loving it as much as I did, though. It’s charmingly addictive, a whole lot of fun, and it adds a clever little twist on an already great concept. My only issue came with just how unforgiving it could be, with the permadeath aspect proving quite treacherous when learning the ins and outs of everything. You get over it though, and whilst dying doesn’t stop being frustrating, you always know it’s down to your own mistakes. I’d easily recommend Bombslinger to Switch owners, regardless of whether they’re a fan of Bomberman or not. It’s a novel little experience and one that’s easy to spend a ton of hours having fun with.

Bombslinger is an updated take on a classic genre. The game's strengths come from the way it combines the arcade feel of its action with the brutal approach of the rogue-like genre. It's a simple game, but one that offers inventiveness and swathes of charm that should keep players sticking around for a long time after the credits roll.

In summary, Bombslinger feels like a mix of several familiar concepts but manages to be greater than the sum of its parts. It's not perfect, with a steep difficulty setting and unfriendly amounts of grinding. The visuals are great, and the overall experience is fun, so you should pick up Bombslinger on the eShop for $12 — unless you hate roguelites.

The unforgiving difficulty of Bombslinger can almost feel as punishing as a Dark Souls title at times and may turn some players off, but any veteran of that series and rogue-like genres will absolutely fall in love with Bombslinger. The grind-y arcade style of the gameplay combined with its nostalgic art-style, unique game design and personality make for a nice Indie gem. Each run felt fresh and the grind to customize my load-outs for future runs made this game an absolute blast to come back to, especially for quick bursts on the go.

I really wanted to like Bombslinger and in some ways I did. The grueling difficulty spikes (which are randomized) and the game’s bugs got in the way of my enjoyment. The multiplayer mode is probably worth the price of admission for those looking for an alternative to Bomberman.

A roguelike Bomberman experience that brings its own flavor set in a Zelda style overworld with bosses and replayability. It has a nice style and the randomization to the gameplay will keep things fresh. There's also local multiplayer which fleshes this package out a bit more. Anyone not comfortable with a gameplay focused on challenging you might be turned away, but for those who enjoy learning to become better and earn new upgrades will find plenty here for them. There's a lot to like here. I'm excited to see what else Mode4 will bring to the table.

Overall, Bombslinger is one of those titles where it feels like a crime if the world isn’t shouting from the rooftops about how much fun it is. Seeing only a few screenshots and a short description the possible impression would be that it’s merely a pixel art Bomberman clone and that’s a pity. Flat out, Bombslinger absolutely puts all attempts at the single-player Bomberman experience to shame, and confirms the sneaking suspicion I’ve had for years that the potential was always there for it to be much better than it was. Throw in a great generally classic multiplayer mode and the package is a real winner!

Bombslinger is a decent game, but its brutal and unforgiving difficulty is sure to turn many potential buyers off. Building up a character with abilities, items, and weapons is engaging as you find new ways to deal with what's put in front of you, but to have that all ripped away upon death is truly heart-breaking. If you can stomach the set-backs then Bombslinger is sure to please, but if you'd rather take your belongings to the grave, you'll be in for a tougher and more frustrating time.
