All told, Streets of Red is a surprisingly varied and replayable game with plenty of clever ideas and riffs on the old school arcade beat 'em up formula. Though the visuals and music may not be terribly exciting, the pop culture references crammed into every stage help to give the game lots of charm.

If you're a fan of Double Dragon style games, you know, of the classics in the beat 'em up genre, then Streets of Red: Devil's Dare Deluxe Review might scratch that itch. While Ceidz preferred playing this release in couch co-op, EdEN liked going at it on his own, so there are definitely options for fans of both styles of play.

Whether your throughline with Streets of Red is roguelike beat-'em-up or throwback to arcade brawlers, it's a great time. While it works best in co-op, overall this is a game with easy-to-grasp controls that builds out a wealth of variety with numerous characters and upgrades.

Streets of Red is a great though gruesome couch co-op beat'em up that features challenging, non-stop action and some witty Easter eggs.

This is a top indie game and one which is fun and will keep your attention. It has everything you would want, fun gameplay, a great visual style and decent audio. Then throw in all the homages and you are on to a winner. What sets this apart though is the in-depth mechanics which feel satisfying as well as having a nice set of characters to play with and the ability to play with up to 4 friends locally. This has been well thought through and adding money so that you can try and control how long you stay in the game is a great addition. Another homage to the arcade days but one which also serves an important purpose here. This for the price is a must buy especially if your an 80s child like me.

The game is wonderfully self-aware and melds that awareness together with well thought out and fun retro brawling. It's replayable, has several challenging secret bosses and local co-op. I can't recommend the game enough as long as you don't mind a challenge.

What you’ll find as you play is that while you can certainly work through enemies one by one the key to success is getting them into groups and killing multiples at once...
