Lumines has always been a challenging game, and that hasn't changed in this remaster. Despite excluding some modes and tracks from later games in the series, rendering it not quite the supreme title it could have been, Lumines Remastered is a great package that will suit puzzle purists seeking an addictive title to reward skill and dedication.

While it won’t scratch the itch for anyone looking for a competitive puzzler, there isn’t a music-based puzzler quite like Lumines Remastered so beautifully executed, and at an affordable price. The Trance Vibration gimmick you can take it or leave it, but you’ll still be able to bliss out regardless.

Remastered is a stunning addition to the Switch library that absolutely shouldn't be missed. Puzzle fans will likely delight the most from the game's mechanics, but even those who have been turned off by puzzle titles in the past should consider giving Lumines Remastered a look, as it does enough different to warrant any gamer's attention.

For those worried about the simple gameplay and minimal graphical aesthetics will be pleased to know that Lumines Remastered holds up quite well on Nintendo Switch. While the graphics themselves are not as beautiful as they were over a decade ago, the coloured-blocks still delivers a certain charm that is compounded by the foot-tapping background music that keeps the experience alive. While Tetris purists may shirk at this block-matching alternative that messes with the formula a little, Lumines is worth a try. Whether it's high scores on the leaderboards, completing strategic challenges, or just filling the void for a couch-multiplayer title, Lumines Remastered has something for all lovers of arcade-type puzzle games.

With Lumines Remastered the 2004 PSP game makes a maginificent return. Gameplay, visuals and music, that are intimately intertwined, are dope. And Rumble HD, that you can apply to other Joy-Cons, is a great to feel everything that this puzzle game with a lot of content - but no online game, sorry - has to offer.

For fans of the original Lumines, this will be a wonderful toe tap down memory lane. It’s everything that original game had with a few extra game modes in a neat package. A block dropping puzzle game with obvious quality and ingenious mechanics, this remaster has been created with respect for the original. It’ll be your personal taste and tolerance for the music you don’t like which will ultimately decide how much fun you have with Lumines Remastered.

For better or worse, this is the 2004 original but crisper and sharper. Lumines Remastered is a fiendish, stylish, and addictive puzzle game that has held up over the last 14 years, and this re-release makes it easy to see why. Like with Tetris, it’s the kind of puzzle game experience that sucks your mind out and makes you lose track of time. You might just start having the “Tetris effect” compulsions and convulsions herein. For only $14.99, with hours of replay value and a lifetime to practice, Lumines will consume you all over again.

It might be a struggle for some, but getting to grips with Lumines Remastered's deceptively unique gameplay and getting lost in the electronic beats is a wonderfully rewarding and mesmerizing experience. The visuals may not play as much of a part as they do in other puzzle or rhythm games, but the constant promise of something new to see makes you want to keep playing and to keep improving.

A solid HD/4K update of a solid-gold classic puzzle game. Lumines Remastered doesn't transform the Lumines experience and not all the new additions work out for the best, but who cares when the core game is still so fantastic and the overall audio-visual-sensory impact is so powerful? While we'd love to see an all-new sequel with brand-new skins and tracks, it's good to see Lumines back in action.
