At such a low price there is absolutely no reason for fans of platformers and all things retro to not take the plunge. Achievement hunters can earn a healthy chunk of gamerscore within a few hours as well. I, for one, wouldn’t mind seeing where Elena Temple’s next adventure takes me

Despite some notable flaws, the game's real-life developer will likely see a much better fate in the video game industry. I know I'll be interested to see what Catalin Marcu delivers next.

The Adventures of Elena Temple is a minimalist 2D action platformer that takes us back to a time when games where more simple… and we liked it that way! The different classic console skins you can use to play the game add a ton of nostalgia to the mix, and the tight gameplay mechanics make this one a fun and short game to play at home or on the go that is very easy to recommend.

The Adventures of Elena Temple does a solid job recreating a certain era of platform gaming, despite minor problems linked to level design. What's unfortunate is how more time, effort and focus seems to have gone into the fictional history of the game and the machines it can be played on for the sake of nostalgia, rather than the gameplay. It's nice there is reasoning behind the visual filters, but this and the silly story comes across as overbearing when the actual gameplay perfectly captures the feeling of nostalgia. It's a pity the developer didn't just release the game in its rawest form, cutting out the excess trimmings and adding in more playable content.

The Adventures of Elena Temple delivers exactly what GrimTalin wanted to deliver: a solid platform adventure game full of puzzles, traps, and items to collect to feed that completion hungry beast. It’s an excellent title to sit down and play for 10 minutes or a few hours if you really get into it. The price is very good for what you are getting and I would recommend it for anyone who likes this type of game or is looking to recapture the old days without playing an actual old game from that era.

If you’re either an older gamer who’d like to spend some time reminiscing or a younger gamer interested in getting a window into a very classic gaming experience Elena Temple is extremely easy to recommend. With a budget-friendly price, challenging but fair skill level, and a satisfying runtime that doesn’t overstay its welcome it’s a terrific blast that feels authentically from the past. Even with the many advances we’ve seen in gameplay over the many years games have been around it’s great to see an example of gameplay that still easily holds up today.

The Adventures of Elena Temple is a great platformer in a super-cool package of retro novelty. If what you're looking for is a quick fix of good gameplay with some old-school flair, this is a perfect choice. However, if you are looking for extensive exploration or near-impossible platforming, this experience may be underwhelming to you.

The only big, big thing this game is lacking is an in-game timer and local leaderboards to encourage speedrunning, as I feel that could help this game’s replay value just a bit more. Nevertheless, if you’re into metroidvanias and don’t mind the simplistic gameplay, this is a must-buy.
