Ancestors Legacy Reviews
It is not the greatest strategy game in the world, but it can be fun at times. The campaigns are easily the best part of the game, even if the combat can be tedious and buggy.
Destructive Creations has developed the kind of strategy game that puts upcoming releases like Age of Empires 4 on notice. Ancestor's Legacy raises the bar on the genre through the sheer strength of its production values and single-player content.
Overall, Ancestors Legacy is an excellent addition to the RTS genre. While the game is not revolutionary, it takes all the best elements of its forebears and fuses them together. Destructive Creations has hit the nail on the proverbial head with this offering—an axe to the face of those who doubted the studio after its debut title, Hatred, was almost universally panned by critics. The care and dedication to detail so obvious throughout the game serves as a testament to the development team’s love of Scandinavian and European history and should please anyone who is a history buff or fan of real-time strategy games.
Ancestor's Legacy is without a doubt one of 2018's gems; fantastic characters, a unique and absolutely brilliant camera that allows you to get up-close and personal with the action on the ground, an interesting story, a gorgeous world, and wonderfully tactical real-time combat are packaged up into a must-have experience. With a bit here for RTS fans and a bit here for RPG fans, Ancestor's Legacy really is a title that any gamer can pick up and play, though they will be punished for their mistakes. Whether you choose the screaming Vikings or the straight-backed Germans, you are in for a surprisingly deep and incredibly intricate real-time experience.
Ancestors Legacy brings the Vikings back to life. The combination of fun combat and interesting missions has created an unexpected gem.

Despite a few minor issues and annoyances I had with the controls, Ancestors Legacy is one of the best RTS games I’ve played on any console with its interesting narratives, satisfying combat and accessible nature. Working your way through all eight campaigns should take you at least fifty hours if you play on the correct difficulty for your skill level; with the skirmish and multiplayer boosting your playtime even more, should you wish to play solo or with friends. Although some aspects of the game may not be historically accurate, the developers have done a great job at transporting you to the various time periods with visually stunning locations.
Ancestors Legacy is a glorious and bloody jaunt through the middle ages, matched perfectly with amazing strategic depth, a dark atmosphere and real attention to detail. You might find some of the games concepts a little tried and tested at times, and there are moments in cutscenes where you’ll get a little stutter whilst your loading a chapter of the campaign, but nothing that diminishes what the game is all about. Which is enjoying the ambience, challenge and glorious bloodshed of the middle ages and having to really think about how you approach each scenario. Mix that with a cleverly simplistic, but clean UI and you have the makings of what Ancestors Legacy is, a great addition to the RTS genre that will leave you feeling nostalgic and satiated.
. The campaigns are solid and have a great story-arc; the graphics in-game are fantastic; the acting on the whole is great.
Ancestors Legacy is one of the few real-time strategy options we have for consoles, and we think it is an occasion we should not miss if we are lovers of the genre

Due to unfortunate design choices, I just wanted to rush through everything and couldn’t exactly enjoy my time with the game. In short, Ancestors Legacy felt too much like a chore to play.
Ancestors Legacy is a direct RTS focused on action and combat, leaving everything related to management and resources in the background. A breath of fresh air to the genre that wear with a story mode based on battles and historical events of the four available factions, and complements with a realistic and brutal representation of the war in the Middle Ages. The console version has adapted the control satisfactorily, but has seen its visual quality a little inexplicably diminished. If you like the strategy genre in real time, you should try it without hesitation.

Strategy games are among my favorite genres, and a portable RTS done well is the dream. Ancestors Legacy even comes close, and proves that it is possible for a console RTS to be playable. What holds it back are core gameplay decisions.
Background plot, strategy and good control are the main ingredients of Ancestors Legacy. A game that will be entertaining for you thanks to the dynamic and spectacular combat. If you are also enthusiasts of the Middle Ages it will be a game made for you.

Ancestors Legacy impressively translates the often control-heavy RTS formula to the Nintendo Switch, though its RPG elements are nonexistent.
When it comes to real-time strategy, representation a bit on the iffy side for Switch, so any new entry in the space is always welcome...
I eventually enjoyed Ancestors Legacy but I wanted to quit many times within my first 20 hours and that's not a good sign.
Ancestors Legacy could have been a revolution in RTS genre if not for its extreme lack of content. Yet, a very deep gameplay mixed with superior animations and great AI make it one of the best RTS titles available on the market.

Unique RTS with great graphics, soundrack and some inovations. However suffered by poor balance and frustrating gameplay.

Although it has some technical problems and mainly flaws in artificial intelligence, Ancestors Legacy is a good RTS game. Even though the campaigns offered are not very attractive, the other game modes are very entertaining and make good use of the controls that have been adapted to the consoles in an excellent way.

The controls are excellently adapted to a controller, and bring up relatively few issues in terms of unit control. I do wish the core design allowed for more diversity in terms of unit production and strategy, but that hasn't kept me from having some great matches. While some of these issues are inherent to the game while others are exclusive to the Switch version, none of them kept me from enjoying my time with it. Ancestors Legacy isn't perfect, but it just might be the best RTS experience on Switch.
