Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition on Nintendo Switch is a very fun RPG simulator that you should definitely check out. The way it sets up the adventure by being a digital representation of a pen and paper RPG dungeon crawling session is very clever, and there's a ton of content to enjoy in this pixeltastic colorful release. If you're a fan of turn-based RPGs in general, then you have to download this one today to play at home or on the go! I had a lot of fun with this game, so I hope that we soon get to play its sequel on the Nintendo Switch.

The game's premise, gameplay mechanics, retro art style, and humor make this a very fun and excellent addition to the PlayStation 4 library, and after playing this one I'm more than up for playing the sequel!

Knights of Pen and Paper is a game oozing with tabletop RPG-inspired nostalgia. Those that love customizing and building their own teams while blasting through a ton of turn-based battles will immediately fall in love with this game. You will gravely disappointed if you’re looking for anything beyond that though (ie. a story with depth, or varied forms of content). All in all, it does a pretty good job simulating a night around a game table with friends, minus the pile of Cheeto crumbs and half-consumed mountain dew cans.

For the most part it’s this sense of fun and discovery that is meant to prop the game up, since having gone a less traditional route there’s not a compelling overarching story, your characters are intentionally simple and lack story arcs, and the combat system is pretty bare bones. What helps drive you is the desire to try out some of the fun choices for changing things up, find out what weird things you may be fighting next, and to explore new places to see what surprises there may be. That said, if this lighter style and lack of a meaty story aren’t what you typically would look for, or if the pop culture references don’t connect for you, what’s left is a pretty bare bones RPG experience beneath it all so it is vital you’re sure this is an experience for you.

The quests and battle were fairly standard, the majority of my enjoyment came from the onslaught of ‘80s and ‘90s culture that blended perfectly within the game. From the ability to hire Master Splinter as the dungeon master, to purchasing Johnny 6 as a pet, there's plenty to keep a smile on your face. While some of the humor went over my head, there's enough chemistry to keep you entertained regardless of the amount of Dungeons and Dragons experience you have.
