Harking back to the stealth games of old, Aragami: Shadow Edition will force you to think your way through. Some clunky controls aside, it's well worth your time — especially if you were a fan of the old Tenchu series.

Aragami is a fun, unique, stealth based action game that pays tribute to how stealth games used to be, it's tricky, challenging and rewarding with graphics and presentation that impress for a small development team. Aragami has its annoyances, but beyond those there's a thoroughly enjoyable stealth system which will reward the patient.

Priced at £19.99 for the Shadow Edition, the package offers great value. The Nightfall expansion adds an enjoyable extension of gameplay from the base game, and is a great addition when bundled. Purchased separately however the deal isn't quite as sweet. Fans of the genre will find a lot to like here, Aragami's gameplay is a lot of fun. There are a few issues here and there, but the replayability, fantastic online co-op and multiple different ways to approach the game, make it a worthwhile addition to your library.

Even though the main game wraps up the story nicely, albeit with a fairly predictable ending, now that we've seen it's possible to both add depth to the characters and their lore, and push the gameplay to the next level with the Nightfalls DLC, we want more.

Aragami: Shadow Edition is all you could ask for and more from a game that is built on the mythology of shinobi. It may still have a few rough corners, but for a first stab on console that emphasises stealth, patience and bloody retribution? It's a superb experience with plenty to say thanks to its included Nightfall expansion.

Aragami is not for everyone, especially casual fans of the genre; it's too demanding. Those of you who truly relish the hunt and welcome the challenge, though, will surely find that Aragami: Shadow Edition has what you're looking for.

Despite only using the basic stealth principles, Aragami is a quite enjoyable experience. Nothing special, but fans of the stealth genre should be pleased.

Aragami: Shadow Edition is a good stealth-based assassin adventure that plays more like an arcade game, as opposed to a gritty, realistic experience.

Overall, despite Nightfall being a relatively short bit of DLC, it manages to pack in some fun challenges with the level design, and the combat is as satisfying as ever. I found the story to be nicely paced throughout the four levels and leaves you off just before the opening of Aragami. However, the DLC doesn't add much more to the game than the three new Shadow Techniques and is over once you've only just gotten into it.

Rarely was there a moment where the game felt unfair. Aragami: Shadow Edition is a good time with some minor issues. For people who are missing stealth actions games reminiscent of Tenchu, this could fit the bill.

Aragami: Shadow Edition is a top-notch stealthy, almost puzzle/adventure hybrid game that allows you to play through zones the way you want. You can teleport from shadow to shadow or sneak and crouch or simply stealth kill all that get in your way. The game rewards all forms of play especially if you stick to that plan all the way through the chapter.

People who find trial and error frustrating should be aware that they cannot save scum, and there are some pretty long checkpoints in the more complex levels. Overall, though, it's a fun game of shadows that stealth fans will appreciate.

Aragami and its expansion are very strict in adhering to the stealth approach and it's what I enjoyed most about the game. Some may find this mechanic off-putting and feel dated that you can't blast your way out of a tricky situation but in doing so, it truly makes you feel like an assassin where one mistake will lead to failure. It's an absolute must for anyone that enjoys the classic stealth genre. It's a very smartly designed game in both its level design and mechanics and has a story while not ground-breaking it kept me well-captivated. It's unfortunate that the game does lack the polish in its technical performance but ultimately Aragami succeeds in creating the Tenchu-like game I've been craving but in its own unique and gorgeous style.

Aragami: Shadow Edition is an extremely pleasant and rewarding experience that, in addition to rekindling the flame of the stealth genre, honors several of its greatest titles. Its mechanics and plot are extremely well done and each new visit to some particular stage can offer dozens of new possibilities. This experience, which can be in single-player or co-op, deserves to be played by all.
