I have to say my time with Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded has been a pure joy. I love the stories and characters. The music is fantastic, and could be my favorite of the console Touhou games I’ve played. Gameplay here is fun, simple and challenging but fair. The amount of content here makes it well worth the $49.99 price tag. PlayStation 4 users can load their save from the previous version to carry over story progress, bestiary, and equipment. This means those folks jump straight into the new content. This is a must own title for Touhou fans. The amount of fan service to the franchise is huge and done in the best way possible. Rogue-like fans will have a blast with this one as well. This is one of the best game’s I’ve played this year and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

I have to say that, in my opinion, Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded is one of the best entries in the overall Touhou series of projects

If you go into Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded with full expectation of what to expect from a roguelike dungeon crawler and Touhou title, then you will most likely enjoy the game, especially if you enjoy difficult titles.

If you are a roguelike fan, then this is a lovely, charming, colourful and traditional take on the genre, and it's the first really good example of that on the Nintendo Switch to date. For that reason alone it's the superior version of one of the more fundamentally enjoyable roguelikes I've played in quite a few years now.

I quite enjoyed Touhou Genso Wanderer: Reloaded. It has many of those classic elements that make a Roguelike what they are alongside other factors that made it enjoyable as you aren’t always making hard choices as to whether or not to pick something up because you are out of space. Being able to grind it down for points and then use those points on something else makes for a fantastic feature as you aren’t stuck waiting for a blacksmith but you can do it yourself keeping the dungeon crawling rolling for a lot longer at a time.

Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded is a fantastic interpretation of the Mystery Dungeon formula that genre fans are sure to love.

It's a japanese roguelike influenced by Mystery Dungeon in the combats, but in the end falls short to meet expectations.

Unfortunately, it seems to be spread a little thin and it makes a huge sacrifice to the narrative that its cute enemies can't quite make up for. It's still a good roguelike by any measure of the imagination, and the developers clearly know what they're doing. However, the good stuff is a little too easily obscured by the frustration that can pile on after you've been whacking away for hours. If you have the patience and a relationship with Touhou Project, then this is undoubtedly a good buy. If this will be your first introduction to either roguelikes or the Touhou girls, you may want to start with smaller prey.

Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded lands on the Nintendo Switch with a formula that joins a dungeon crawler to a roguelike and the result is quite enjoyable for the fans of the Touhou series, though less so for newcomers. The exploration is challenging, with an immense amount of weapons and objects to find but the combats feel repetitive, the procedurally-generated dungeons can be too difficult and the plot is not as involving as it should be. The dedicated and patient ones will be rewarded, less versed players will be put off.

Touhou: Genso Wanderer Reloaded is a solid game, but one with such lengthy conversations that you can't help but become tired of them. Dungeons are fun, but the repetition aspect can also become tiring, and if you've played the original version, then it's only worth picking up Reloaded if you really enjoyed the experience. There are new characters, scenarios and previously released DLC included, so there's plenty of new content to see here. It's the best Touhou game I've played, but it's difficult to recommend at its current price. It's worth a shot when it's cheaper, though.

Overwhelming for newcomers and probably too generic for genre aficionados, Touhou Gensou Wanderer Reloaded is difficult to recommend to all but die-hard series fans. The beautiful hand-drawn presentation and high production values are hindered severely by a contrived and intrusive interface, unimportant dialogue with very little character development and derivative mechanics. It certainly looks the part, but there are more fun and interesting adventure roguelikes such as Crypt Of The Necrodancer on the eShop right now.

Fans of the series will no doubt find a lot to like here. As a newcomer I found many of the gameplay systems to be lacking, the story boring, and just couldn’t get into it. There are plenty of other NIS America RPGs to enjoy on the Switch (Ys VIII and Disgaea 5 Complete to name a few) instead of this one.

It isn’t terribly surprising that the storyline is plain bizarre and that the motivations and behaviors of pretty well all of the characters are hard to follow for a newcomer...

The roguelike procedural generation in Touhou: Genso Wanderer Reloaded often generates terrible flaws, horrible stages, and difficulty levels all over the shop - when the difficulty spikes, the challenging nature often just results in repetitive and frustrating grinding. There is far too much dialogue to read through, meaning huge gaps between actually being able to play… It's hard to find much to like here. It will certainly interest Touhou fans who get to enjoy some of their favourite characters, but for casual fans and those new to the series, all they are getting is a rather monotonous dungeon crawler.
